Perhaps players who always played for teams in backwater locales (like Khabarovsk or Magnitogorsk)...

He didn't like his chances elsewhere in the NHL? Or did he get a big pay day from SKA?

Meh, he was brutal anyways. Plus the Flames scouts didnt even scout him properly, they thought he was a Center when he plays LW (Somewhere we already have way too much depth).

He was not brutal by any means. The guy was nearly on pace to score 20 goals in his first full season in the NHL after missing an entire training camp and sitting out during the lockout due to a blood clot in his leg. In addition to that he did not speak a lick of english, and was away from his newborn baby the entire year.

He was also never given an extended opportunity by Bob Hartley to solidify himself as a top six player. Of all Flames regulars who played this season only Blake Comeau, Tim Jackman, Brian McGrattan, and Steve Begin played less per night than Cervenka.

The guy has all world skill. Best of luck to him and his family moving forward.

Cervenka will get 5,1 mil. USD per season in SKA, it is 15,3 mil USD for 3y-deal. How much money is it in NHL (you know, taxes)?

I'm even less upset to see him leave then, if that's the case.

Is there anyone else in the KHL with a higher cap hit?

Good for him and that is a great contract. He looked more comfortable on the big ice, he is a really good player, stinks what could be his only season over here he was on an absolute time bomb of a team. I am sure Hudler is a little bummed to see him leave.

According to that website, it's $5.1 million over the duration of the contract, not per season. (at least, that's how Google Translate says it)

Quote:
According to the agency R-Sport, referring to an unnamed source, should pay Červenka be about 160 million rubles (about 5.1 million. USD, 4 mil. Euros) for the period of the contract.
No doubt he could've earned it here but I think he fell victim to the culture shock, and maybe prefers to be in more familiar surroundings..

On the last line it says something about 15.3M for 3 seasons. For some reason google translate omits his last name from the line but if you compare it to the untranslated article his last name is in that sentence.

On one hand it's hard to believe he settled for 1.7M per... on the other hand it's ludicrous if he's making 5.1M per.
