"My role in the whole thing was to say, ‘We’ve got to get a quality goaltender. We can’t go through what we went through that year with the goaltending in the (2010) playoffs."
Well his staff has not yet delivered. Maybe that is why they got Mason. Another attempt. Maybe a third comes this summer along with a buyout to fulfill Snider's request.
Not to mention if he really felt this way, why did they plan on going into the 2011 season with the same goaltending that he claims is what cost them the cup?
The whole 2011 shake up was a direct result of an emotional Ed Snider going on a rampage. They came so close in 2010, that being swept out the following year infuriated him. I definitely believe he called to shots, told Homer Richards needs to go and to get a goalie...both of which were areas of the team under heavy attack from the media.
This divorce is going to be really bitter. It's going to be ugly and you can bet there's going to be a lot of words said to the media. Too bad too because this should have been a match made in heaven - the Flyers finally solve that long term dilemma of finding a goaltender and Bryzgalov finally getting his just due and receiving adulation in a hockey crazy market. Instead, it's been one big mess right from the get go.
