Robert Mayer remain in the organization

May 17, 2013 at 10:45 | QMI Agency

The goalie Robert Mayer would eventually chose to remain in the organization of the Montreal Canadiens, according to what reported the Swiss newspaper Le Matin on Friday.

Mayer has chosen to break his contract with HC Biel, who plays in the Swiss Hockey Championship. The Czech goalie had initialed an agreement with the team in February 2013. However, the pact included no escape clause, the newspaper said, which could result in a lawsuit against the masked man of 23 years.

After spending the season with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League, Mayer served as a substitute for Peter Budaj for the fifth game of the series between the Canadiens to the Ottawa Senators. Carey Price was suffering from a sprained knee.

In 38 games with the Bulldogs, Mayer has compiled a record of 16-17-3 with a goals against average of 2.93 and an efficiency of, 908.

Players get payed big money from fans buying tickets, if they can't take the pressure maybe these players should quit hockey and get a job bagging groceries... a lot less pressure in that job.

Ohhhhhh.... poor little baby millionaires! Want to play in a nice place like Tampa where no one knows your name and you can get to the beach to relax after a hard game.

The true warriors want the pressure... let the Lecavaliers of this world go elsewhere.

Don't be mad at the fact that it's way better to play in Tampa than in Montreal.

Sweet!

Price
Budaj

Tokarski
Mayer
Delmas

Condon

Pretty good goaltending depth. Habs won't have to feel forced to draft one this year.

Il évite la partisan de s'irriter et bloque toute source d'ennuie pour l'équipe

LOL.

The 4th goalie remains?
That can only mean that the 1st goalie is being shopped.

Sucks for Condon, though.

A goalie drafted this year will likely play two years in junior before graduating in the AHL and two or three more years before graduating in the NHL.

By the time, he graduates in the AHL:

Tokarski will be 26
Mayer will be 26
Delmas will be 25
Condon will be 25

and likely all gone by that time... So I don't see any link between our actual depth and any goalie drafted this year...

What's strange in all of this is that if he stays in NA to be with the Habs...is because he had to be promised something, which can only be the starting job in Hamilton. Which is incredibly dumb based on the fact that we don't know what the future holds, if they are not satisfied with Tokarski, could go UFA route...a trade might happen and so on....What did Mayer do so we'd go some extra mile to convince him to stay? Geez, I would have done that more with Avtsin than Mayer...

The only consistency that Mayer brings to a team is his inconsistency. And this is from his junior days. You can probably like his size and like when he's really hot....but he NEVER stays that way. And I don't see it happening EVEN if we keep saying that goalies reaches their prime later on.

Maybe he had some kind of disagreement with his Swiss team, wanted out, and he got in touch with the Habs? And the Habs, knowing they have thin depth and what they're getting with Mayer, agreed to give him a shot?

Whatever the case is, let's not go crazy with the assumptions here. Hamilton's season doesn't start for another, what, 4 months? And we're already making promises about the starting goalie?

Point is, Mayer is not that great of a goalie to even give him a shot. How about seeing what else is out there instead of being confortable in our old shoes? As far assumptions are concerned....well this is a board. Pretty sure 99% of our comments are made of it...By the way, I didn't say that FOR SURE it was that. I did mention that it was strange....so it HAS to be something else. We can't say to a guy that he already won the #1 in Hamilton. It can't be.

Problem with that list is there's no # 1 goalie.

This return to the Habs has been rumored during the last month of the Dogs season by the Dogs play by play that the Habs wanted to keep him around and that he likely had an out clause. So this has been going on for some time now.
