Toews nominated for Selke

Quote:

Jonathan Toews, Pavel Datsyuk and Patrice Bergeron named finalists for Selke Trophy (top defensive forward). #Blackhawks
No reason he shouldn't win it.

He won't win it. On reputation it'll go to Datsyuk or by East coast bias to Bergeron.

It will be crazy if the Hawks don't win a single post season award after winning the President's Trophy

Because it was a team effort, I believe Toews should have been a Hart finalist, but they are a sum of the parts more then the tails of one special player.

I wish they would just announce the winners now so the Hawks can see that they will get Shutout in all these award categories and then become so angry and just steamroll their way to a Cup.

It will be better when at the awards all these guys go up and collect their silly little awards meanwhile Toews is sitting in the audience with the Cup as his date.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I'd prefer that he doesn't date inanimate objects

Those on-again, off-again relationships are always awkward though.

Don't think Toews'll win it, but glad to see he got nominated.

I think Toews will get it this year. President's Trophy, Jennings, the team defense has been stellar. Those are both team awards, but Toews is obviously a part of it, and I assume that will factor in.

just to get those stats

on ice GA
T 29
D 30
B 17

Bergeron played 100 minutes less than Toews and 140 minutes less than Datsyuk

takeaways
T 56
D 56
B 23

on the ice GF (NOT including PP)
T 53
D 41
B 37

Toews is the best in +/- too but not by much. All are great at faceoffs.

SHToI/G
T 1:25 Min - 3rd on CHI forwards
D 1:26 Min - 4th on DET forwards
B 2:12 Min - 2nd on BOS forwards

Stats say it's close... nothing else. All deserve it. Bergeron better on the PK with much more time but he has less pts than the other two. (somehow the Selke goes to the best 2way player, not only defensiv minded Forward)

Natural talent + good coaching makes Selke Trophy winners. If Toews win that'll make 2 former Sioux Players (both Blackhawks), Troy Murray and Jon Toews

There is more than coaching and talent needed... just look at Kovalchuk or Kovalev. They have/had both and never came close to one

Yeah.

Presidents' Trophy+Jennings Trophy+(don't have the Norris winner)=Selke winner.

confirmed with link

If it doesn't happen, it'll be another historically unprecedented snub-
possibly driven by people who don't know much about the hockey
that's played by teams outside the Eastern Time Zone...

Do you have the stats for SHG against? Think that'd be interesting, but thanks for the info. The advanced stats favor Bergeron, so that could play into it. Also have to consider that Dats/Toews will split the West votes, while the majority EC voters will probably be in Bergeron's favor. I'd bet he wins it

It's always the same 3 people nominated each year, and the same person (Datsyuk) wins each year.

Will not be surprised if that's the result, but if Toews comes away with it, it'll be greatly deserved.

Bergeron won last year and Toews wasn't one of the finalists last year. In 2011 Kesler has won it

All three are very deserving so it comes down to the voters interpretation of the award criteria. If you really weigh defense, its Bergeron; if its great all-around play including an exceptional defensive game, its a toss up with Datzyuk and Toews; and if you weigh team success highly, its Toews.

With no obvious choice it may come down to its some guys turn, meaning Toews.

So I think with team success and being due, Toews narrowly beats out Bergeron, with Datzyuk well back (pretty sure Detroit out of the playoffs at voting time.) Id pick Bergeron I think his game this year best represents the award.

The voting is already done. They're simply the top 3 vote getters.

I understand how the voting works, but to clarify my post: at the time of the voting in mid/late April, Detroit was not in a playoff slot.

My point was the that many voters will discount guys on teams that don't do well (ex Calder) and that would show when we see the final voting results.
