The severness of his issues, and how long he actually had been playing through it, are alarming.

Toughness, hitting and playing with some snarl are the bread and butter of his game.
Even if he fully recovers, I fear that this series of concussions may take away the edge from his game.

it seems like a far stretch going from not being able to focus to winning a spot 4 months from now

The pickups of Straka and Alt are two former - and recent - 2nd round picks. Kind of nice to recover some players of that caliber who are already a few years into development.

yeah you gotta think the end is probably near for Bourdon. I am sure hes having a hard time coming to grips with it at such a young age. I feel bad for the guy.

Stolarz made a great initial save on that break away, but couldn't get back in time for the rebound chance. D probably could have done a better job at taking away the 2nd opportunity though.

seeing Stolarz play, I can now say that he seems to be a guy that will rely on his size and athleticism rather than technique. Sometimes when he goes post to post, he gets to aggressive and goes past the post

Exactly. His biggest flaw (obviously he is still super young so it can be corrected) is that he is ALL OVER the place in regards to his positioning.

The next two years are critical development time for a young goalie. Positional play is certainly something that can be improved on in that time

As you mentioned though, he's still young and his positioning will get better. I can also state that his positioning has gotten much better since coming to London. Part of the problem is that Stolarz has never really had a goaltending to work on his positioning until now (sounds very Bobrovsky-esque). I don't think it's something that will change overnight and that it will take some work (that's why Stolarz is a 4 to 5 year long term project). I think the success in getting Stolarz to develop will be to find a way to balance the athleticism and size with positioning and technique.

The good news though is that Stolarz is very receptive to the coaching he receives and he's got one of the best work ethics out of all the Flyers prospects. So, there's optimism that he can do it. The question is - will the Flyers be patient with Stolarz? If they are, then this will be a move that pays off immensely.

exactly. he has made nice strides since we drafted him 11 months ago. another thing about stolarz is he is a very smart guy. gonna be an interesting run for the remainder of the memorial cup and next season in the ohl. who is gonna be the nights starting goalie between this memorial cup and the one next year in london.

now our current nhl goalie steve mason. as far as posters on hf i am one of the few that feels he is gonna be a star for us. and the other members on here are cautious, wait and see, its too early to tell types. the reason i am so high on mason is that in the 7 games he played for us, he looked like the exact same goalie in all games. and his technique and positioning are almost perfect. some of the highest rankings for positioning i would give a goalie in a long long time. very similar to himself in 09. then he has 3.5 not great years. and that is what has the flyers fan concerned. if he shows up to camp with the positioning he had for the 7 games he had this year, then we gots ourselves a great goalie.

And it'd be ok if it were someone like Darren Pang, but even 6'1" Jon Quick gets away with it. No one minds the occasional flair of athleticism, but at his size, he should be taught to be an absolute wall like Lunqvist and Rinne.

To be a wall he needs positioning skills. He could be an average ish goalie without it but its not a minor flaw. He is out of position...ALOT. That and rebound control needs and hopefully will be taught.
