Me too! He has looked pretty good playing a simpler game. Still too far away from covering the point man in the defensive zone though. Lots of nice hits. Him and Asham have looked good together. I really like a healthy Asham.
Beaver otoh has been so bad it is actually insane. He is on two Lee Majors salaries at once but seems more like the Sandman than twins of a bionic Steve Austin. Pathetic

I don't know if it had anything to do with playing in Boston, but that was by far the most engaged he's looked with this team in quite some time. Nothing on the scoresheet, but he was very noticeable.

I think this has been building from Game 6 and 7 of the Caps series. He has been getting more involved, more aggressive. He is skating better. It was about damn time Torts put him on the PP. And I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but he did a heck of a job before John Moore took a stupid penalty. Kreider went to the front of the net, bodied off the defender and passed the rebound back to a wide open Stralman. He needs more PP time. Kreider was effective on the PP at BC. He has a great shot. Let him use it with more space.

Agreed. There were two or three shifts last night where he looked like he did in the 2012 playoffs again. If he would do the things he did on those shifts consistently (use his size and speed to win puck battles, find time and space, and get himself and the puck to the net) he'd be seeing substantially more ice time.

The fact that we are noticing Kreider is a good step. As a 4th liner thats really what you're looking for. Go out there and give us some noticeable minutes.

I get the feeling he IS trying to do this, and is not moping.
Again, I think it's hesitation from Torts in the back of his head.

Hopefully he overcomes this sooner than later.

I realize this would mean CK at C, but the line combo I want most is
Hags --- CK --- Cally

speed, scoring touch, hard work, etc. --- what's not to like?

It has, and ever will be, a confidence thing with Chris. When he feels comfortable and things come second nature this is the way he plays. When the coaches are over-bearing and he tries so hard to do every little thing right he over thinks it and his game suffers.

He was the same way in college.

He is almost so conscientious it's a fault.

This is why I have been so upset with the way he was handled. Let him do one thing or another and let him build his confidence!

Those who followed the Whale/Pack thread know that I've said the whole year that he needs to keep it as simple as possible. He's not a dangler, he's a big guy who can skate. On offense, give the puck to the center and drive to the goal. That resulted in a ton of Hartford goals for him. On defense, forecheck by driving straight at the opponent, intimidating with a combination of size and speed. That resulted in a ton of turnovers. It works particularly well when the opponent is still in his own zone and Kreider is trying to cause trouble.

I don't understand why this is so hard for Kreider to remember.

Forget all the Torts conspiracies. If anyone's gonna somehow ruin Kreids it's ****ing Brad Richards

Were you the poster who said in the Pack thread that he wanted to assassinate Kreider every time he stickhandled?

He actually looked like the worst skater on the 4th line last night. KREIDER AND ASHAM LOOKED BETTER THAN HIM!

Nailed it - I was going to post all of the above. Hopefully Torts pays attention and gives him playing time accordingly on Sunday.

I understand not giving kreider top 6 minutes at this stage BUT he should play on the PP because he is built for it. Kreider's big frame and ability to knock in rebounds in front of the net can help our PP. Most of our guys dont even stand in front on the net on the PP. The only guys that did were John Moore and CK.

When he went down to CT and was tearing it up, he had a bunch of goals banging home pucks right in front. Don't know why it took so long to give him a chance given our lack of PP success.

Actually, with Cally struggling I'd rather try this:

Zuccarello-Brassard-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Pyatt/Dorsett-Boyle-Callahan
Pyatt/Dorsett-Richards-Asham

Kreider banged in many of of his goals from around the net in his 2nd stint in the AHL. He has shown good eye hand coordination to deflect and tip pucks in previous stops and bang home loose pucks and rebounds. The Rangers had Graves in the 90's when they had Leetch and Patrick/Zubov. Net presence. Graves gave the Rangers that. Van Riemsdyk gives the Leafs net presence on their PP.

I like this, but I want to try to find a way to get Nash on a different line just so we can get Chara and Bergeron away from Brassard/Zuccarello and open up some more ice for them.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Brassard-Zucc
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett
Asham-Richards-Callahan

Reunite 2/3 of our 2011-12 2nd line (for most of the season anyway) on the fourth line. I feel bad for Asham though. Has to skate with the two worst forwards on our team.

Would like to mix it up a bit. If we could get Clowe back in it would be a great help.

Hagelin Stepan Nash
Kreider Brassard Callahan
Clowe Richards Zuccarello
Asham Boyle Dorsett

I was thinking this but imagine that second line in the defensive zone.... My god.

Maybe flip Hags and Kreider?

Kreider-Stepan-Nash

Had a dream he scored two, but not sure they were playing Boston. It's pretty fuzzy.

This. Can we just unleash this ****in kid already? He lit it up in the playoffs last year FFS and he's looked good for a while now albeit in his like..3 minutes of ice. I cringe everytime I see him and Nash trying to throw huge body checks. It's really not a mystery why goal scorers come here to die.

And yes, I know, someone will throw out Gaborik's name and "but he scored 40 goalzz!!." I know. That's because he refused to play Torts hockey and was eventually ran out of town for it. See: Gaborik benched in ECF for not blocking shot Also See: Gaborik getting traded to Columbus

It takes some players longer to get it than others. Kreider has looked much more comfortable in the role he has been placed in for the playoffs. Give him and Miller a full training camp in september and we'll see two players who will be ready to contribute to the Ranger's cause going forward.
