You drill down enough and you get a reshuffled NHL.

Hell you could put together 2 US Teams that could medal if spread out. For instance:

Team A/B Candidates

G - Miller - Anderson - Quick - Schneider - Bishop - Thomas

D - Buff - Suter - Johnson - Johnson - Yandle - McDonagh - Orpik - Shattenkirk - Carlson
Bogosian - Faulk - Gleason - Wisniewski - Jones

F - Kesler - Kane - Pavelski - Backes - Stepan - Galchenyuk - Legwand - Umberger
Parise - JVR - Pacioretty - Booth - Saad - Wheeler - Malone - Kreider - Kessel - Ryan
Brown - Callahan - Gionta - Stafford - Stastny - Bjugstad - Coyle - Palmieri

a lot of solid young US forwards though you forgot to include Colin Wilson, T.J Oshie, Matt Cullen, Jason Pominville, Kyle Okposo, Peter Mueller, Drew Shore, T.J Galiardi, Colin McDonald, Lee Stempniak, Cam Atkinson, and Chris Higgins amongst others who could fill up a 2nd and 3rd team...

Hockey Canada should invite them all this summer for tryouts. However they only invite about 2 teams worth.

Well, judging from our team this year, also Finland could have two or three medal contender teams...

KHL is helping player development a ton. Also, Finland has better coaching than most.
And ofcourse there's the thing, that Finland could supply a top goalie to pretty much all the teams.

Canadians can draw dream teams into paper all they want. truth is they send all star teams every year to world champs and teams with european league players beat them cleanly. so how many contender teams canada can send answer is 1 or 0

Sweden can have 3 contending teams (2/3 NHL &1/3 SEL/KHL). I made 2 balanced SWE NHL teams up to cap a while ago so for sure there are talents around. Not that much if you ask a Canadian but not long ago you could not muster even one SWE NHL team and not up to cap.

Why are we even talking about having 2 teams when we can't even medal with 1

Some threads don't need to be started.

While I know we have incredible depth and I also enjoy fantasy line matchups, I can't help but feel this thread screams arrogant to all of those other hockey loving nations.

In truth, Canada has a battle each and every best on best tournament (basically Olympics) and I think we really only could field one medal contender.

Now......our B team would be good and probably be stronger than most other countries B teams......but probably be outside of medal contention in the Olympics. My two cents

Canada had a very good team this year WHC, and they did not even compete for medals. I'd say that they are lucky to compete with the best they got.

Who cares. When is Canada going to choose between the incessant bragging about their depth and playing the "we didn't have out best players" card when they lose?

Canada's A-team didn't medal in Nagano '98 and finished 7th in Torino '96. They won gold in SLC '02 but let's face it, they were pretty darn average until the gold medal game, which they only got to play in because of the gift semifinal matchup against Belarus. Vancouver '10 was the only time Canada's A-team won a best-on-best Olympics and were also the best team in that tournament. And it came on home ice with an NHL-sized ice surface. Go figure.

Silly, arrogant hypothetical question.

Just like the juniors, where they had their absolute best due to the NHL lockout but didn't even medal. Before Canada starts internally debating how many competitive teams they can produce, perhaps they should accept that their A-teams don't always do so.

One maybe two. If there is no effort you have to be one of the best to win.

Looking at the Canadian teams WC quarter-final statistics the last few years, it seems that Canada has a hard time mustering even ONE team that can contend for a medal.

What is it ? Canada out in the quarters for like the 4th time in a row now ?
