Pretty sure all season ticket holders will be given an opportunity to purchase tickets.

I really don't understand what people are complaining about. Who cares if they wear white or blue jerseys? Does it really matter? This whole thing is a win-win for the Rangers, can't wait for these games.

I'm assuming it's gonna be a split atmosphere type deal where they play both teams goal songs and all that which is why I don't really care that it's a road game.

Very interesting. At least that makes sense...

Stupid arrangement. Oh well. Ranger fans will probably be there in big numbers anyway.

So... The Rangers will never host a Winter Classic in NYC?

But didn't they play a "home" game against Tampa a few years back when they opened the season in the Czech Republic? That was in another freaking country!

I think they can't play home games in NY.

The lease agreement may be true, but I doubt this is the reason. There was talk of a Rangers-Bruins WC @ Yankee Stadium before Pinstripe Bowl started. There are always ways around it. Grease up the right politician and a waiver can be approved.

Agree.
Both season ticket holder fan bases have been given opportunity to purchase tickets for these outdoor games, so the crowd is guaranteed to be split to some degree.
This is an advanatge for the Rangers. We keep 41 home games at MSG.

Outside of jersey color (and maybe the goal horn?) is there a difference?

I can see them using both goal horns.

I dunno about every team... Do you really want to watch an outdoor home game for the Lightning at Raymond James Stadium? The game would be such crap unless they can do it at night in December, even then that's a big risk.

For the Winter Classic in Philly, they only played the Flyers goal horn even though the crowd was split and there were plenty of Ranger fans there. I'm trying to remember, did they use split goal horns when we played overseas?

There could be. Plenty of tickets will be left over, but we could end up seeing them put into a lottery system. So we'll have to see how it goes down for now.

The lease agreement was the reason that the Rangers WC game never got off the ground in Yankee Stadium. The Wall Street Journal had an article a few years back detailing this.

Devils starting to promote:

Rangers ® vs. Devils ® at Yankee Stadium

Don’t miss your chance to witness history at the first ever NHL®
outdoor game to take place in New York City, under the sky at
Yankee Stadium. On Sunday, January 26th at 12:30pm, the eyes
of the sports world will be focused on one of the NHL’s greatest
rivalries –Rangers vs. Devils, as they compete in the 2014 Coors
Light NHL Stadium Series™. After a season where the Rock was
packed in red with consistent sell-outs, it’s now time for Devils
fans to take over a large stadium in support of Jersey's Team.
Ticket inventory will be limited, and only Devils Season Ticket
Holders will have guaranteed access to purchase tickets.

More information on game specifics will follow.

It'll probably be cheaper. The cheapest for the Winter Classic in Philly was $79 for the rows closest to the field ($119 if you were a NYR STH since they added a $40 merchandise charge to each ticket).
