Mac and Jones both looked good. I'll give the edge to Mac in that one since he schooled Jones on the 2nd goal and the way he skates is just.. wow.

Not surprising... but the Avs board almost universally wants MacK now.

well atleast all the scouts say there is a 1a jones and a 1b Mackinnon in this draft. But if the Avs do take Mac does our pick maybe come into play in a trade, Or def take Jones?

This is Mac schooling Jones. The only highlight video so far. And oh yeah in case you didn't hear about it. Take a look at this gem from before the game started -

Wouldn't worry too much scouts have been watching them all season and I don't think they're going to pick Mackinnon over Jones based off one game. This was the first game for both teams and it wasn't that Jones did poorly from what I could tell it was that Mackinnon did better...this game. Personally, I'll wait till after the Memorial Cup to start panicking.

And that's why, unfortunately, it was never a good thing that we lost the lotto.

Its one game. Their opinion is gonna switch like the wind. One game isn't gonna make a huge difference, even if it was impressive what Nate did last night. Awful goaltending though..

That would be just our luck. We suck balls, lose 1rst overall pick, lose the kid we wanted to pick. Whoever we pick at #2 is a bust

I'm keeping the faith. The Avs need a defenseman like Jones and he's right at the top so it's not like they're going out of their way to get him.

This was really the first game I've seen Jones play since the WJC and I thought he looked nice. No panic and solid decision-making. He even poke-checked the puck off Mac's stick too to break up an attack. Hopefully he continues to play well in this mem cup.

Question

In the event the Avs do take MacK and we end up with Jones, would the Panthers trade for a front line player?

I'm relatively new to hockey -- only really started watching two years ago, so I'm not familiar with how available players are by trade.

I guess the other option would be to trade for a top ten pick and try for Barkov, Monahan, Lindholm?

Who knows.

If the Avs go against popular opinion and take MacK, then we "steal" Seth Jones.

Definitely agree, and I'd still be very very happy. I meant on top of taking Jones, would we also try to trade one of our former high pick defensemen for another offensive player.

I'm really going to be doing backflips no matter what.

So are you saying would we trade for offense after selecting Jones? I certainly hope so. Obviously our 'kids' aren't ready and need time in San Antonio. We could trade Kuli who should have good trade value unless Tallon wants a young core of Kuli, Guds, Petro, and Jones. Guess we'll see soon.

That's what I'm hoping.... I guess my question is, are there offensive players available that are worth trading for?

I can't imagine there are any teams looking to trade top of the line offensive players. We'd need a trade partner that's dying for a defenseman.

Watching MacKinnon tonight, didn't realize he was THAT talented. I hope the Avalanche don't decide to pick him.

Either player would help us. We need a potential #1C and potential #1D-man. No Panther luck or un-luck in the equation.

Yeah, hopefully someone at their top knows that you just can't win going with all offense. Tampa has to have shown them something right?

there's no doubt Jones is a stud, and it could essentially mean we have a Chris Pronger type in our team...but we have some pretty good young d core in Guds, Kuli, Petro...no doubt a future of Guds -Jones is freaking scary...but then again, this team has missed offense so much, it's like the franchise has been screaming for an offensive star since its inception, only during the Bure years did we get that...the potential of Hubs/Bjug-Mack/Shore might just > Guds/Petro-Jones/Kuli
