More physical- Nurse, Zadorov often throws huge hits but other than that uses his stick more than the body
Better defensively- Zadorov
Better passer- Nurse
Better shot- Zadorov has a very hard but often inaccurate slapshot. Never uses a wrister. Nurse has more of a variety
Thinks the game quicker- Neither are particularly high hockey IQ prospects, Zadorov is slightly higher
Better skater- Nurse, though both can skate well
Higher upside- Hard to say, Zadorov has very little offensive game but is great defensively, Nurse has great tools but low hockey IQ. Depends on who addresses their flaws better, I'm gonna say Zadorov's are easier to address
Thanks guys, in terms of their shots accuracy, shot selection, ability to get it away quickly, and sheer velocity would be good to know. Also who has more puck poise in the offensive zone/who rushes the play a bit when pressured?
Great stuff so far guys, it sounds like the responses that I've gotten are from people that have seen both a number of times and not just guys reading scouting reports.
More physical - Draw - I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Zadorov is the better body checker, but Nurse is overall the meaner player.
Better defensively - Zadorov - Nurse is good, although, I do feel he gets a bit exposed due the system SSM plays. Zadorov is very good has improved throughout the year.
Better passer - Nurse - Of all the things here, this was easiest. Nurse makes a fantastic breakout pass with consistency, he also is a very good passer in the offensive zone. Zadorov is a fairly good passer, but it could use work.
Better shot - Nurse - Nurse has a better wrister and has a more accurate slapshot. Zadorov's slapper is more powerful, but has struggles with accuracy.
Thinks the game quicker - Zadorov - Neither have fantastic IQ. I find that Nurse improved his decision making more this year than Zadorov did, but Zadorov still makes less mistakes.
Better skater - Nurse - This one is very close. Zadorov is a smoother skater, but Nurse is faster and is more effective overall.
Higher upside - Nurse - I see Nurse as a boom/bust prospect who has the upside to be a #1 defenceman, while I see Zadorov as a lower upside, but much safer prospect.
In the games I saw of them, it seemed to me that both were pretty good with short and medium range passing, but Zadorov connected more consistently with his long range outlet passes. Of course, with long range passing, at least a little bit has to do with receiving the pass. Perhaps, with guys like Domi, Horvat, and Griffith receiving his outlet passes, Zadorov had an advantage to work with, but he still had to deliver those passes.
