Ballard/Booth traded for nada.
Luongo compliance buyout.

9 million dollars to fill out the roster. Although Booth might be kept.

You missed his point completely. He was referring to your statement that Edler won't be traded for cap space. As he accurately pointed out, there are very few people proposing trading Edler for cap space, if any at all. Virtually every trade proposed for Edler involves a significant young roster player in return.

Gillis said he wants to get younger and bigger. Why would Vancouver trade their youngest and biggest top 4 dman? Doesn't make sense based on what Gillis says he wants to do with team.

fine you compliance buyout Ballard......

you still have issues.....

2 G $9.3M
remaining top 4 Dmen $18.7M
your bottom 3 Dmen....maybe $4M

that adds up to $32M way over a $25M budget.

even after cutting Ballard...Vancouver really needs to move another one of the Dmen for a younger cheaper Dman

No, but he said we needed to move another expensive Dman(as well as Ballard) or we'd be over budget. Which is not true.

You're really willing to pay Jagr 5.2 million dollars on a cap-tight team???

Also, Luongo is basically unmoveable at this point due to contract length and the crowded goalie market, so unless they can shed salary elsewhere, they need to use one of their buyouts on him. Booth and Ballard both have very little value, so it's improbable that whichever one isn't bought out is traded.

On a 1-year deal, if we have the cap space, why not?

Anyways, I have no illusions that we'll get anything good for Luongo now, but I still think we could likely get a 2nd or something from New Jersey or Winnipeg, maybe. It is pretty likely we'll be buying out Ballard and Booth, though.

You still have 0 roster flexibility.

You need to budget the roster at a max of around $61M and save the extra for call ups and deadline deals.

Luongo you would have to do a buyout on. You arent going to get anything for him.

With Edler because he is more moveable if he was dealt it would be more likely for youth players

As I said previous you basically should budget around $25M for your 7 Dmen and 2 goalies.

buy out Luongo...

2 goalies=$5M
4 Dmen=$18.7M
--Hamhuis, Edler, Garrison, Bieska
3 other Dmen >$2M

Thus still over the $25M

If you traded Edler and kept Ballard the cap hit would still be over $25M their salaries next year will not be much different.

I am just using these as examples.....

You could look for a cheaper top 4 dman. Buffalo has Sekera (top 4 Dman) with 2 yrs left at $2.75M--Other teams have similar players. Vancouver trades one of the top 4 for him which lessens the cap hit . You might be able to move Edler to an up and coming team like the Islanders and get Niederreiter and one of their young Dmen in their system who is NHL ready.

- 2nd pairing LD on the canucks
- perceived to have enormous value
- has been very suspect defensively the last couple years
- Canucks can conceivably run Hamhius-Bieksa|Garrison-Tanev/#3/4 RD and not be much worse if at all, as a lot of what Edler and Garrison do overlap and Garrison is better defensively.
- Basically they think they can move a piece that is pretty redundant (ie roster won't suffer much for losing it) and get enormous value. Same deal with Schneider but seems they'd rather lose Luongo for nothing/negative value.

Vancouver - Schneider - Edler (- Ballard bought out) + 1 solid #3/#4 RD + return from those two up front would be a much better team, possibly enough to challenge for the cup again before Sedins are up.

Why winnipeg??? they are a team who is NOT in need of a goalie. The goalie isnt the issue with that team.

Are you seriously freaking out that the Canucks D+ starting+ backup goalies would cost $25.75M. That's just nutty. We do not need to trade Edler for cap space and that notion is obviously ridiculous.

I don't know, just throwing around names. Pavelec has been pretty awful, imo. They might be interested might not. Doesn't really matter.
