Yeah except that their will be a ton of UFA buyouts this year and we might need the space this year.

But what's the point of trading Horcoff while retaining salary, if he has to be replaced anyway? IMHO, Hemsky is the one who goes for a 3rd liner with Oilers retaining a million in salary.

I just don't see anyway management buys out Horcoff. They like him too much and while overpaid, the Oilers have no one to replace him with.

The only chance Horcoff gets bought out is if Tambo is still around. Tambo wasn't a part of the edmonton old boys club and didn't have any loyalty to Horcoff, so there was at least a shred of a chance he would be bought out. MacT is even more of a yes man to Lowe, and even coached Horcoff for half of his career. The odds of MacT buying out a player, signed long term by Lowe, is outrageously low. Don't count on Horcoff being bought out.

This summer will be wild. I'm saying Hemsky is 100% gone and Horcoff could be dealt if the Oilers were to acquire someone like Brooks Laich, Matthew Lombardi, Brandon Dubinsky, Antoine Vermette or similar player this summer.

I wish this post can be stickied to every page of every proposal thread.
I'd take any aviater bet out that Horcoff will be on the roster by the end of next year.

Yeah, Horcoff won't be bought out.

But he should be. You could buy 2/3rds of a good 3rd line, or an entire elite 4th line with his salary alone.

Instead we are stuck with a slightly more effective Belanger type who greatly contributes to the lack of accountability and non-physical, soft nature of the team.

Double Yup. This organization is loyal to a fault. See buchberger and semenko. 0% chance he is bought out. He has a lifetime job with the Oilers... He and smyttie.

They do? When did they offer it to him? While he was sitting on the bench catching his breath in OT during Game 1?

If COL goes ahead and buys out Paul Stastny, or agrees to eat 2-3M of his last year with a trade, he's who I'd target as the #2C for this team. He's only 27, he's got at least another 5-6 good years ahead of him, and should be a solid fit for the new division.

Just because teams don't actually trade during the playoffs doesn't mean they don't have an offer for him. Might have even proposed it to Chiarelli.

How is he any different than Gagner?

I could see Brad Richards being another potential buy out that could be our 2C. To be honest, I don't even know if he's an upgrade over Gagner anymore. Surely he will be bought out, I wonder what he will command as a UFA. I'm pretty hard pressed thinking of an available 2C who is an upgrade over Gagner at this point. The only one who comes to mind is Berglund, who might be available.

MacT and the owner both love Horc, I can't see him going any where.

Ya why not CGY they want to try make the playoffs next year.

The Sedins just seem like they would be for those teams that are struggling to make that next step and don't have anyone to rely on.

Do the Sedins want that? Will they waive their NTC or play out their contracts and either go back to Europe or maybe sign with a contender for 2mil a year to try win the cup?
I don't think Calgary has pieces to get sedin's deal done, probably include whole of their team and gillis will still be asking for more.

Better defensively IMO, but not a guy that I would be targeting TBH.

He's an UFA after this season, if they are making offers to him right now that would be considered tampering.

Those are the two they probably want to keep.

If anyone becomes available, it will be Hiller

Much better defensive player, definitely not a "snowpants" type of player, and has shown the ability to go up against a guy like Joe Thornton and hold his own against a physical team. Let's not forget his 52%+ faceoff percentage over the last 2-3 years.

If you can't see the difference between Stastny and Gagner maybe it's time to watch more of other players around the NHL.

Oilers do not need Stastny. He use to look good but hasn't for a few years.

He's been totally invisible against Edm so maybe we are even more biased.

I'm not sure why he's been so meh.....maybe it was losing Stewart (though I think his decline started even before the trade) but he looks very ineffective. And his price tag it's not even worth the risk. I rather have Weiss to be honest. Weiss is better and just as good on faceoffs

There is no way Anaheim trades Gibson. He is the future.

They're more likely to trade Hiller....and we know Lowe was high on him when he came over in the spring of 2007. He chose Anaheim over a few teams including us.

He's got a year left at 4.5 million. Matheson mentioned his name in a recent article and Stauffer has also hinted that Mact will upgrade the goaltending to push Dubnyk.

As Bob McKenzie mentioned in the 1st intermission of the Sharks/Kings game the other night, this is a good offseason to be needing a goalie.
Hiller, Miller, Halak, Luongo can all be had via trade and Mike Smith via free agency.
