Woww, and I see a lot of people didn't want Niinimaa before. Most of people prefered not trading for him.

If he was, based on that he would've never trade for him.....So again, if we're true to what we're saying, it's pretty normal to not like his arrival instead of seeing all those pros Niniimaa coming to this board just because Mr. Gainey must have seen something good in him.....Dallas needed to unload some salary? Would've taken Klemm and others to help them do that but we were not desperate enough (like Theo desperate) to get rid of Ribs even though he was dissapointing.... And we were not desperate enough to get a questionable d-man, we have enough of Streit in that department already.....

I'd take Niinimaa 100x over Hal Gill...

Hey, is it out of the realm of possibility that last year was an aberration for Niinimaa?

I'm not saying that it will happen, but if it did, then the Habs made a good move.

Actually, you can fish the North Saskatchewan river, but can't eat anything out of it. You need to drive to get something safe to eat.

I'm hoping the same 417. Hopefully his ankle injuries are a thing of the past, and he does well in Montreal.

well when I suggested we move Bonk for JN it was just a thought to sure up our D. I would never have thought Ribs would go the other way bcuz he's so soft/slow and is easily pushed around. The Western Conf. is fast with lot's of solid defence I just can't see Ribs against Pronger or Dion P. one hit and Mikey is painting with crayons while drooling. IMHO Dallas had no place to play him.

I'm happy with our team and hope JN regains his Oiler form.

I've always been a fan of Niinimaa, but I am a bit scared about his last seasons... but hey, the fact that he was injured and he was playing with the Isles, I guess he can't play any worse than the last two years

Man oh man. I was just trying to be facetius because of all the anti-Ribs sentiments floating around in every single thread.

Perhaps I've got...the gift.

I'm sure its still easier get away from the city there than it was in Long Island or Dallas ... how about Montreal? Atleast you seem to get same kinds of weather as we do here.

Bwahaha. That's absolutely brilliant.

A thread about Niinimaa 1 week before the trade and Ribs gets bashed in it.

I didn't post back then but I'll chime in this time. I think that Ribeiro gone is a positive at this point, this guy was obviously atrocious in the locker room. When the GM or coach would point his bad performances, he was always replying that it wasn't he didn't played that bad to the media. That was one of the thing I hated the most about the guy. Also, he doesn't look like a serious athlete. This guy doesn't work-out enough for an nhler and he has the mentality of a teenager. Good ridance.

Now about Niinimaa, I think he's paid too much but he could rebound. After all the cap hit of this trade is only 500k and we get some desesperate help at the blueline and it allows us to dump Traverse in the minors for good. I think this trade is good and it will help us to get faster and bigger at the blueline. I'm pretty sure Niinimaa is still a decent puck-mover and that's what we needed the most to ignite all the offense with our skilled and fast forward core.

Well at the time Cote was healthly and Bouillon was thaught to be able to come back in Novembre. And Souray had not gotten hurt yet, same for Dandenault.
So it made sense then. Now with the LD's pretty banged up there's was a need for more depth. Although Niinima is still not my first choice.

Gainey and Carbo must both like Janne Niinimaa guys, so give it a chance...I think everyone here knew that Ribs was going at some point...

Wow... talk about a 1st post...

I'm no Gainey but it's simple to add up that Dallas had too much D and we were in need. Knowing the connection between Dallas and Gainey/Carbonneau I was sure something could happen.

Anyway the answers given by others was accurate considering that Perez was too much for Niinimaa but I wasn't plunging in details for my proposal.

Anyway, good stuff it was brought back.

Thx mod

IMO Ribs is a great match for Dallas, from what I've heard he's playing with Lindross and Morrow on his wings. With two guys like that who cares if he's soft? This is a powerful and physical line even with Ribs, who's going to be there to feed those two. And they'll give him room to perform where he can't really make room for himself. I think we'll see a career productiong from Ol' Mikey Ribs.
