Not that I want to dump on Niinimaa (I hope he excels for us), but I find this twist of logic fascinating.
don't worry he won't be off limits after a few games

The not so subtle difference between the two players is that one actually played for the Canadiens and has/had a track record to critic or applaud (depending on how you saw Ribs' contributions).

Niniimaa was 4th amongst Dallas d-men as far as ice time is concerned, average of 19:46 min. per game, Zubov with 26, Boucher with 23 and Mitchell with 20. So above guys like Daley, Robidas and Klemm. And with his -12, he was as far as Plus-Minus is concerned with guys like Zyuzin, Andrew Ference, Kubina..., Mara, Brewer, Foote, Berard, Gonchar as far as throughout the league....Though most of them had much more time on ice average per game, Zyuzin is the one that comes closer to any comparison as far as numbers goes with close to 19 minutes average of time on ice per game and 7 goals and 18 points compared to Niniimaa 3 goals and 16 points......So I don't think anybody was ever close of thinking that Zyuzin was the worst d-man of the league....

If only he could regain some confidence as far as his offensive stats are concerned, he's not the worst of the league......there's a limit to what people can say......Not to thrilled about him but let's put things in perspective....
