Wolski - a player who in his first few games, makes everyone think:"why did he not stick around anywhere else", but the answer comes in the next few games...Him being a one-way softie may not be so visible in the KHL though.

Wolski is a waste of talent, if he had just a tiny bit of heart he would be a 60 point player in the NHL, but he just floats around almost aimlessly.

I have hope for Wolski. He had 5 fine seasons with Colorado and Pheonix. He had 2 downward seasons with the Caps and Rangers.... See the trend? Tortorella is hard on skilled "soft" styled guys and the caps have a downright horrible system... Look at Orlov and Kundratek for example. They could both be in top 4 for caps but instead they choose some physical guy like oleksy. Hard for a skilled guy to make it in those systems. Even with 2 poor seasons he is scoring points at 60% in reg. season and playoffs. He was Pheonix best offensive player in their PO run a few years ago.
So no, this guy is not over the top or washed up. I'm betting he puts up a great season with Torpedo which will be a better system for him to play in. Hell of a talent.

Steve Oleksy happens to be much better than both Orlov and Kundratek, but I do agree that Orlov proved last year that he should have a spot as a regular on an NHL roster.

that is your point of view

Just imagine situation, that we will have 5-6 such Lev´s in KHL.. and you know, Lev is not even close to SKA/CSKA. And we will have such euro KHL clubs, only unanswered Q is where.

Well, KHL pays big money, whereas in Finland the largest budgets for salaries were around 3mil €. Add to that the taxation of Finland, and no wonder players leave to KHL.

The KHL is not robbing anyone. They are not stealing players with existing contracts without compensation.

Yep, and that's weird IMO aswell. They are both very good goalies, and I'd expect them both wanting to be starters. Unless they play like everyother game, I don't know why would Engren want to go there.

having Vehanen as a mentor, they could have had a younger Czech goalie as an understudy...strange decision, at the least.

Yep, that is right, it is free market (which is not with NHL). I just wanted to say that all talents from SEL/SM-Liiga are goining to KHL these days and those leagues can do nothing. Yep, I know about guys going to NHL...

Not all. Most of the young top players (under 22 yo) want to try first in the NHL. If they fail in the NHL they most likely go to the KHL if they get an offer from a KHL team.

There are some older players who could easily play in the KHL but choose not to. The best example is Linus Omark who played in Swiss league instead of the KHL. Finnish defenseman Tuukka Mäntylä is easily a KHL level player but he returned to Tappara instead of playing in the KHL. Ossi Väänänen had a mediocre KHL career in Minsk but I believe he is easily a KHL level player as well. He was the best Finnish defenseman in the WC's.

Currently Elitserien is holding it's own against the KHL a bit better than SM-liiga. It is not like the KHL can just go and pick any player they want from Elitserien.

For SM-liiga the situation is worse. You could describe the situation as a domino theory. So many players have already left that the others want to follow. Russia is not seen as a "black hole" anymore among Finnish hockey players like it was about 10 years ago. I remember how people reacted when Tero Lehterä (Jori's uncle) went to play to Neftekhimik in 2003. People thought he was crazy. But now many really good Finnish players like Kontiola, Kapanen and Immonen have played in Russia for many years now and they seemingly like living there.

Another thing is that SM-liiga has gotten weaker over the years and level of play is not what it used to be. Marginal players such as Ville Nieminen, Ilari Filppula and Teemu Ramstedt are among the leading scorers there. The level of play in the KHL is higher (even with the watered down product with this aggressive expansion). Even a 25 year old player can still develop after moving to the KHL. Just look at Leo Komarov.

I agree with all. SEL will have hard job to avoid SM-Liiga´s scenario... believe me, it is just a matter of time. SEL is lucky that NHL clubs loan swedish players to SEL (crazy right? SEL clubs should loan players to NHL, not opposite).

EDIT

btw, CSKA/Ak Bars are "silent" so far... we can see a "big" names in near future.

Unless the player has an out-clause that guarantees free or very cheap (100K euro) exit.

That is still not "stealing". Nobody forces clubs to sign contracts with KHL clauses.

Shipachev is rumored to go to CSKA and Tim Stapleton to Kazan.
