I don't know, he played pretty well with Hamhuis, wouldn't mind keeping those two together!

We will have three right handed guys (Bieksa, Tanev, Corrado).

Pretty much.

I just don't see why we'd deal from our weak RW options (the only natural RW we have are Hansen and Kassian and Weise, Burrows is a LH LW) for a position where we currently have 4 (soon to be three) LH LD. Corrado can play both LD and RD so it makes no sense to trade for a defenseman unless we're talking Edler+ for Weber.

Does what Bieksa do really count as playing defense?

I'm hoping that under a new coaching staff Bieksa wont be allowed to play as a 4th forward.

If we could get Bieksa and Edler to play well defensively...HNNNNGGGGHHHH

That's what he was doing? No wonder our scoring was so abysmal.

Keep Bieksa and Edler away from each other. That is all.

Bieksa for Cizikas, Martin and 2nd round pick

Let Zeeker fight for the 4th line centre spot and have Martin in the 4LW spot with Weise.

There is no way the Islanders move either of those players.

Zeeker is the main target. Martin is an average 4th liner. The second is what I think is what evens it (though I believe that is a bit much for Bieksa...).

You are massively over-rating other players.

Cizikas and Martin are simply players the Islanders won't move barring huge overpayment.

The Islanders are beginning to translate into a playoff team. Their need for the past 2 years have been a top 4 defensemen in their prime.

Edlers ntc doesn't kick in yet, so he doesn't really have one just yet. But our D is fine its our scoring that's the issue and we don't fix that problem by keeping the forwards here. I don't know what Gillis will do to fix this problem but he has to do it this summer, there's no way to justify keeping the top 6/9 in tact.

Since Gillis talked about getting a better rep with the refs I wouldn't be shocked if Kesler and Burrows are being considered about being moved with Lappy being let go, Gillis said his plan would be made clear over the summer with moves that will be made, that would be pretty clear. Gillis has also brought up Keslers health last season of being a concern and how he has to change his game. Keslers my fav Canuck and I would HATE to see him go but I could understand why and depending the return I could accept it.

It kicked in once he signed his contract extension. (new rule in the CBA)

Players have to be otherwise eligible for an NTC for that rule to apply. Edler isn't until July. Even if, it's simply an option to have the NTC/NMC apply right away — the teams can still negotiate to have it only apply when the contract kicks in.

And they're transitioning into a playoff team because of cheap young players like Cizikas and Martin. Those two are key pieces of their team, and I don't see them moving them easily.

i think moving forward its probably safe to assume all players are going to negotiate it for the immediate, so higgins is pretty much on a NTC
