yeah there also was a very good article on him in la presse. Robidas went on to say that Niinimaa had a very good camp and is a great defenceman but they had 8 d men and he had one of the largest salaries and he was a good defenceman to trade for ribeiro.

How do you know if its such a great article if you can't read it hahah. Anyways this is the just of it:

- He's very motivated coming into Montreal
- He wants to let his play speak for itself and show he belongs.
- His last season in Dallas was a difficult one.
- Says he had a great camp in Dallas and feels really good coming into the season.

Then it talks about how he has a reputation of being a difficult player for coaches. Talks about his disagreements with Steve Stirling on the Island. Also about the Head coach of the Finish olympic team.

annnnnd... He'll only be able to get in two practices before the start of the season.

"I'm Really Motivated" - Janne Niinimaa

(Excerpts From RDS.ca)

Here's what Janne Niinimaa had to say to Montreal media waiting for him at Mont-Tremblant today.

"I want to contribute to team success. I play both ways, I want to be on powerplays and kill penalties. I've always played 20, 25 minutes in the last 10 years."

"I am really motivated, hungry even. I am sure I have my place here. But I don't want to just talk about it, I want to show it."

"My last season in Dallas was difficult. I felt ankle pain and I never could give it my all."

"I am healthy today. I had a good camp in Dallas during which IO played at my best level"

"Apparently, I got into a dispute with my old coach with the New York Islanders. There's nothing to it. We traded words because he thought he had heard me say something. It wasn't the case and we quickly reconciliated. I gotta say, we always got along."

"But that other coach (Finland National Team's) had completely lost it. He was insulting and despised the staff, the secretaries, the trainers. It was a thing that I found despicable, that I couldn't accept. That's why I prefered leaving."

"I've had good seasons in Edmonton. People really support their team over there, like Canadiens' fans do."

"I didn't expect to leave the Stars. I had a good meeting with the coach and the general before camp before the camp. All was positive. But the team had 8 defensemen and it was too much, so I was sent away."

"I would have preferred playing in a preseason game. But I learn quick" (Regarding having only two practices to learn to Habs' system"

I can't argue that a ripped ligamnet in a foot will slow down your game. If his foot has been bad for at least last season, then I can't see why he wouldn't imporve this season if his foot is at 100%(or close to 100%).

Let's hope he get's his "A" game back and get over 30 pts again!

Great article. I know Niinima can be a good D-man, I'm sure he will step-up. If he does then we just fleeced Dallas. If he dosen't well we got rid of Ribs .

Niinima can play as well as Souray does and can be a top 3-top 4 D-man when he is on his game. I'm really looking forward to see him with a habs jersey .

Indeed I was about to post this.

Translation:

"I'm very motivated." - Janne Niinimaa

Monday, October 2nd, 2006 - MONT TREMBLANT (PC) - Janne Niinimaa isn't coming to Montreal just to complete the Habs' defensive brigade. The Fin - that the Habs obtained in exchange for Mike Ribeiro Saturday - wants to play an important role on his new team.

"I want to contribute to the success of the club," he said Monday. "I play in both ends of the rink, I can play on the powerplay and on the penalty kill. I've always played between 20 and 25 minutes per game these past 10 years."

"I'm very motivated, hungry even," he added. "I'm sure I'll have my spot here. But I don't want to talk about it. I want to demonstrate it."

Niinimaa, 6'01" and 220 pounds, will form a duo with Mathieu Dandenault. He says he's in great shape after undergoing an operation to repair a ligament in his left ankle.

"My last season in Dallas was difficult," he recalls. "I was feeling pain in my ankle, and I couldn't give it my full effort."

In 63 games, he scored 3 goals and had 13 assists for 16 points, his lowest total in the NHL.

"I'm in good health today. I had a good camp in Dallas, during which I re-found my best level of play."

He scored 2 goals in 4 preseason games.

A REPUTATION

Niinimaa, who is 31 years old, has the reputation of being a player that can be difficult to coach. He took advantage of his first Montreal media scrum to set the record straight.

"Supposedly I had a dispute with my old coach on the New York Islanders (Steve Stirling). It was nothing. We exchanged some harsh words because he thought he heard me say something. It wasn't the case, and we reconciled quickly. I've always gotten along well with him."

Niinimaa admits having had problems with the coach of the Finnish national team, during the world championships.

"That coach totally lost it. He was insulting and hated the personnel, secretaries, and doctors. It's something that I found intollerable, and I couldn't accept. That's why I chose to leave."

A FLYERS DRAFT PICK

Niinimaa was the first pick of the Philadelphia Flyers and the 36th taken overall in the 1993 entry draft. He played almost 2 years in Philadelphia before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Dan McGillis and a draft pick (Jason Beckett).

"I had some good seasons in Edmonton. The people really support thier team there, just like the fans of the Canadiens in Montreal."

Niinimaa was then traded to the New York Islanders for Brad Isbister and Raffi Torres. Last January, the Islanders sent him to Dallas for John Erskine.

"I wasn't expecting to leave the Stars. I had a good understanding with the Coach (Dave Tippett) and the GM (Doug Armstrong) before the camp. Everything was positive. But the team had 8 defensemen and it was too much. I was cut," explained the skater from Raahe whose salary of $2.508 Million played a part in the decision.

Niinimaa will only have 2 practice sessions to familiarize himself with the Canadiens' system.

"I would have preferred to play at least one exhibition game. But I learn quickly," he added.

In a Cyberpresse article, it says that he's going to wear #6.

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20...128/CPSPORTS01

Says that he wore that number when he began playing pro in Finland.

And the same RDS interview in Cyberpresse with the exception of seeing his face with the Mont-Tremblant trees behind him.....

I was a big fan of this guy when he was in Edmonton, but didn't really follow his career after he went to New York.

I remember him being interviewd the day he got traded to the Island, deadline day I think. He looked completely shocked and devestated.

phew, I was worried he was going to say something like

'hah, 2.5 M for me to hang out in a tanning salon'

"I'm going to befriend Rivet and Koivu and call ourselves Les 3 Amigos'

'Am I soft, like butter in the microwave'

'I hope the building's quiet,I'm very sensitive'

'Montreal ? whatever'

'Anyone have a copy of the porn laws in Quebec ?'

'I like to wear my hat sideways'

I'm glad he didn't say anything like that.

Honestly, I don't know why, but I was under the impression that he was sincere. That thought just ran away and never looked back

Funny you should mention that, Janne was a guest in this certain finnish talkshow last year ... hosted by pornstar Rakel Liekki [google with discretion].
