I really felt like this would be an advantage of having him in the line up at the beginning of this season, but it didn't seem like anyone was dialing down their play in fear of Scott.

In any case, he seems like a good guy, is amusing off the ice, and it probably a calming influence for younger players. I'm happy to have him back.

The Bruins dialed down their play a ton. Especially after Scott knocked the **** out of Thornton. I remember the Sabres were taking shots at their guys and the Bruins weren't responding. Having Scott in the lineup helps a lot in that regard.

They're going to suck next season, so how effective the fourth line is isn't really a major consideration. There's really no reason not to have him considering the current state of the team and how bad it is.

That' what I originally thought, but Bruins fans were saying that they had kind of dialed down their play for a lot of the first half of this season.

Don't see how it makes a difference. He still won't dress for every game, might be held off of shifts to double shift someone else when he is in the line-up, and most teams only play their 4th lines against other teams' 4th lines anyway, so it's not like the deployment of the line needs to change for him.

Exactly, and the fact that he seems like a great teammate is a huge bonus.

He'll (hopefully) only dress every game if we don't have a player worthy of taking his spot, so I don't really see the issue. He did his job and he seems like a really good teammate.

I thought Darcy said it best, "he makes it a safe working environment for his teammates." We all know he's not going to provide anything but toughness on the 4th line, and he did a good job of that. His presence alone makes the Sabres a tougher team, and by all accounts he's a great teammate. It's very little money for one year so there's basically no risk involved. Good deal.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Sure we're going to be bad this season, and sure the fourth line isn't really a big deal, but why does that mean that I shouldn't criticize a move I disagree with?

If this season is any indication he's going to be in the lineup a majority of the time. And a responsible fourth line can help to eat the d-zone starts; taking pressure off of our overburdened, young centers. A fourth line with John Scott spends most of its time eating the easy minutes that should be going to our offensive talent.
