Rangers get high picks (TSN + ESPN)

Rangers appear tenth in tsn's NHL power rankings (4th in the east) after ottawa, buffalo, and carolina...

http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/featu...d=548&hubname=

EDIT: and Barry Melrose picks them to finish 3rd in the East on ESPN.COM

Truthfully, it feels nice to be getting this recognition, but i just dont like it....

Not too high, not too low.

You know i watched that ranking system closely all year last season and came away with one distinctive fact:

The rankings are garbage.

For whatver its worth though, its good to see them not ranked too high like Bluenote said.

I got a chuckle out of the following misprint -

I'm not exactly sure what makes Detroit #1, but alright...

Gee I somehow thought Carolina would be #1 seeing as how they WON THE CUP!

Its based on preseason performance... that said, I think they're fairly accurate.

No it isn't. Flyers finished the pre-season up 1-5-1 and are in 11th.

Wish they had ranked us close to the bottom again, the more locker room material the better.

i think its time we admit that we have potential to be a very very good team this year, and quite frankly, it will be very upsetting if we manage to mess things up. That said, I think a 10th spot isn't too high or too low for us(as bluenote said).... we gotta do it up this year

I don't really care where they rank the Rangers, so long as it the team wins and performs well.

The irony is that if the Rangers click, I'd put them right up there with any team in the league.

I agree. I have to be honest, right now, I believe this team has what it takes to at least reach the conference finals.

The same can be said for a lot of teams, which of course doesn't make it a case of irony at all.

I, myself, have never put much stock in any rankings. Why seriously consider something that you could do with less dissonance yourself?

As the roster currently stands, the defense doesn't suggest that to me.

Throw stats all you want from last years amazing defensive statistics, the Rangers would of been much worse off w/out Lundqvist. Granted the King is back, but I see the defense as it currently stands is underwhelming and will have to overachieve like last year to make any serious noise in the playoffs.

finally someone puts us where we should be. I think we're actually lower than 4th in the east to be honest.

The key, to me, is the Tyutin-Ward pairing; Tyutin develops and begins to realize his potential, he becomes the Rangers' best D-man. The rest of the D then falls in line behind him, meaning the Malik-Rozsival pairing doesn't have to play the extra minutes that expose them, or be on the ice against the top line. And, then Kaspar and his eventual partner, get third pairing minutes and are also less exposed.

Even during the season, the power rankings arent that accurate. Watch how Detroit and Ottawa will never drop out of the top 5, even when they are cold. Last year they would rank the Rangers 7th or something, when they lost 4 out of 5 games during the week, and then rank the Sabres much lower when they won all 5 of their games that week. Doesnt make sense.
