Andy Delmore

I was over on the Trade/Rumors board and someone posted that Delmore has been put on waivers. I don't remeber how much he was signed for but if it's somewhat sane why don't the Oil pick him up?

Granted,he is absolutely terrible in his own end but you know what,he can run the PP and play the odd shift. They could dress him as a 7th d-man and go with one less forward and double shift a few forwards to cover the shortage up front.

The kid is great on the PP and you don't score all those goals on the PP by fluke. Does anyone know what the Sabres signed him too?

Andy Delmore placed on WAIVERS!

I say pick him up Kevin! I think he was tied for goals by a defensemen last year with 18! Will help our powerplay. I say give it a shot.
Don't think money is an issue either, makes 1.4 million I believe.

Looks as if Delmore makes around 1 million this season. He is relatively young at 27.

Unless AHL team's are now allowed to pick up players off the waiver wire we don't have anything to worry about! MacT would have to play prospects then if Lowe could throw in a bag of pucks with him for anyone to take him.

I wanted to pass on him when a couple of people here were deadset on wanting him in the offseason because Buffalo apparently got him "cheap". Didn't want him then... Still don't want him now.

Is he that bad? I've only seen him play a couple times.. he did look pretty terrible but he has quite a shot! Does he have any attitude problems?

Not sure about any attitude problems. Just that his defensive zone coverage is deplorable at best. Any gains on the pp we would make would be effectively neutralized and then some by the losses in our own zone IMO.

I don't see how you could use him in a regular 6 man rotation and still keep your sanity. MacTavish would pull his tongue out ala Harry the Hound.

If they could carry 7 dmen, I'm sure he'd help the powerplay, but I don't think it'll happen.

My wife went to High School with him in Windsor. He's a good character guy.

don't forget that he led the league in PP goals by a defenseman last year...sounds like he got the shaft in Buffalo

He's still got loads of potential.

A change of scenery would do him some good.

Eventhough we're loaded with D-men it could help open up a trade involving Brewer or Smith if we picked him up.

I say put delmore on the fourth line. He can play defense only during powerplays.

I wonder why no one has tried to play him as a forward? I know it would be an adjustment, but his skills seem more suited for forward.

Y'all do realize that we just sent our (arguably) best offensive defenceman down to the minors? Since Delmore is 27, MacT might give him a little playing time, but I doubt it.

Better get used to Ferguson on the point boys...

If Delmore is so great, then why has been moved around so much? If he's on waivers, then I assume that no one is willing to give much for him in a trade. No thanks.

I think he'd be perfect. You'd only have to give him 6-7 minutes/game at even strength, then play the crap out of him on the PP. Our PP would be MUCH improved with him back there! Have Smyth in front of the net, Oates on the half boards, York on the point (Oates and York are QBs) Delmore on the opposite side waiting for the shot and then take your pick of forward to be in the corner.

York should no be on the point whatsoever. He's totally wasted on the point on the PP and if Delmore is on the point you'd have to have another d-man back to cover up the mistakes Delmore would make. I'd much rather see Delmore and Brewer on the point with whatever combo of 3 forwards out there.

Delmore is strictly a PP specialist, not an offensive D-man. He's not very good in his own end,his an OK passer but the guy can flat out shoot the puck. He's also pretty good at pinching in from the point on the PP but again he's terrible in his own end.

I can't see why giving Delmore a shot would hurt. We really need someone back there who can let the one-timer fly and get shots through to the net. A PP quarterback. I say we give him a shot.
