And that sound you hear is Nichushkin's stock breaking the glass ceiling, provided teams believe it.

Hopefully we will know for sure by the time the
Combine is over next week.

If it is true, the Canes just moved up a tier of talent. One of Jones, Drouin, Barkov, or Nichushkin is on the team next year.

I really hope there's some truth to the rumor of Tampa having Nich #1 on their draft board. Basically guarantees us Drouin or Barkov if it's true, and we could use either.

on another note, here's who I ended up selecting for us in a recent mock draft:
1 (#3) - W, Jonathan Drouin - Halifax, QMJHL
2 (#33) - D, Shea Theodore - Seattle, WHL
3 (#64) - D, Wilhelm Westlund - Farjestad, SEL
5 (#124) - C, Justin Kloos - Waterloo, USHL
6 (#154) - LW, Greg Betzold - Peterborough, OHL

no real goalies I liked unless I wanted to go for the overage Conz... which I didn't. Fucale went first round, and neither Comrie or Jarry was available in the 3rd.

So yeah theres that. I've been aboard the Lindholm/Monahan train pretty firmly but if damn it if Nichushkin doesn't complicate things every other week.

http://rsport.ru/hockey/20130522/663576629.html
Well, if he able to start next season, take me off Monahan and give us Nichushkin.

Tlusty // Eric // Semin
Skinner // Jordan // Nichushkin

That would be really solid, let Ruutu anchor the 3rd line.

If the lightning don't take him and he had vowed to come over, the Canes will take him. But for the same reasons, the lightning would take him.

Everyone says "Drouin will be the perfect replacement for St. Louis", like St. Louis wasn't the top scorer in the entire league last year. I think Tampa would rather put a huge moose on a line with St. Louis and Stamkos and let them dominate for the next 2-3 years. St. Louis hasn't slowed down yet, he's got a few more years.

Jokes aside, I don't see JR screwing this up so badly that we don't get a great prospect with this pick. I'm almost past the point of worrying about which one we get, because it's still so far off and there are so many twists and turns left, but it's a nice season to have actually followed through with the tank.

I could see this, or find another person to put on the second line with Jordan and Nichushkin and reunite Skinner & Ruutu on the third. You find the right partners for each of those lines (2nd line wing via UFA?) and you suddenly have 3 potent lines.

Theodore at 33rd would be awesome for the drafting team. I like his game. Kloos probably could be had a bit later as a second time eligible but I am ridiculously high on him as an offensive player.

And it seems like the Nichushkin train is developing some momentum. I like this.

All aboard the Nichushkin hype train!

We need avatars. Someone put Nichushkin in that car with Cole.

Clearly, all we need to do is get Novacane to make an avatar of him. It'll make the draft awesome. Will be like last year when we all had the troll JR avatar on draft day

Finally watched some Drouin highlights. Is it just me, or does that kid skate with his head down too much?

Tlusty-Staal-Semin
Nish-Staal-Ruutu

6'0" 209, 6'4" 205, 6'2" 209
6'4" 202, 6'4" 220, 6'0" 205

And then you have an elite scorer in Skinner on the 3rd line. Interesting possibilities up front.

I really like that 2nd line. It seems like it'd be an absolute nightmare to play against.

Whether they get Nichushkin or not, it seems like they should land a talented player (Nichushkin/Drouin/Barkov) rather than someone "safer" like Monahan.

Elite scorer and 3rd line sounds great in theory, until you realize the cost of doing so is zero money left for defense.

Something has to give up there. Either Ruutu needs to go, they need to find an amazing deal for Skinner, or the defense is going to be 9th place / 1st round sweep worthy for the foreseeable future.

I think they'd almost have to put Ruutu and Skinner together to give Skinner someone to work with on that line if we draft Nich.

But say Drayson Bowman is on the Jordan line, and Rask centers Skinner and Ruutu:

Tlusty - Eric - Semin
Nich - Jordan - Bowman
Skinner - Rask - Ruutu
Blanch - Nash - Dwyer
Westy, Welsh

6'0/209, 6'4/205, 6'2/209
6'4/202, 6'4/220, 6'1/195
5'11/200, 6'2/194, 6'0/205
6'3/200, 6'1/191, 5'11/175
6'4/234

that's a pretty beefy top 9. And Dalpe's about the same size as Bowman should he make the 2nd line instead.

He definitely seemed to rely on the dmen playing the puck and not the body. A luxury I don't think he'll have in the NHL.

I think he's going to have a tougher transition than Jeff because of the skinnier frame. I think the concussions distract from Skinner's ability to play a physical game in traffic. Bouncing off people, fighting through bodies, etc... not just dangling around them.

Will be interesting to see if Drouin can adapt to the physical side of the game.

Yeah I honestly think that ended up just about as good as it could have for me, sans Jones getting to #3 which would have changed my draft strategy entirely.

And yeah, Kloos in the 5th sounds early, but he and Cammarata absolutely destroyed the USHL this year which probably was great exposure for him after what he did in Minnesota last year. Considering I had nothing after the 6th that was probably the best place to make that gamble.

Forgive my ignorance, how did you get the 3rd and 33rd overall picks for us? This is confusing...

it was based on the standings at the time rather then end of season standings.

The money for Skinner (and Ruutu) is already sunk for next season so where they play Skinner is kind of irrelevant, at least for next season.
