http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opi...208450711.html

Burmistrov wants to play in the NHL. He made some comments in his draft year which is why he played in the OHL.

Did the Rangers like Burmistov in 2010? He went right before McIlrath. The Rangers do like to acquire players they liked in a previous draft. Gorton did that in Boston with Rask.

Winnipeg has #13 in the first round.

DZ for Burmistrov and #13.
I think you might be over valuing DZ. Maybe Burm and a 2nd, but that is only because now everyone knows that WPG has to trade him which hurts his value.

He is a 23 year old top 4 D in this league. He had 41 points last season. You must be in the Del Zotto sucks camp. Schenn brought back JVR. Goligoski brought back Neal and Niskanen.

Burmistrov is the type of player most coaches would love to have. 2-way, diligent player. Sublime hands and high hockey IQ.

The Rangers need to trade a defenseman at some point. MDZ probably is the most moveable due to his value and play.

If they could get the 13th pick with Burmistrov for MDZ than that would be a very good deal for them to make. Burmistrov slots in as the teams 3c. Brassard, Stepan and Burmistrov have all played wing as well in the past few years.

He would fit the age and style of play this team is going for.

They need to sign D over the summer and maybe not a name one. Sometimes a younger one like Drewiske, Sulzer, Fistric can be molded into a serviceable or good product in the system. Someone who unlike Gilroy or Hamrlik you actually don't wince when they have to play a few games. Emminger's done a very good job over the last few years.

I'm still all about giving Babchuk a shot. I just don't know if his heart is in North America after his comments that he expects to play in the KHL.

Don't assume McLIrath will be instantly ready or that Noureau or Hughes can just step in.
They need to make a smart signing. They need both grit and intimidation and a true puck mover on the back end. Murray has played pretty well for Pittsburgh. Very big guy who enjoys initiating contact. He battles hard, hits hard, good PKer. He would fit well in NY with this team. Pair him with a speedster like Moore.

They need to sign someone. Their young dmen have a lot of value and they need scoring.

Exactly. Schenn was nothing special in Toronto. He got JVR. There are a lot of teams looking for puck movers.

I wonder if the Rangers like a specific Winnepeg dman? Postma? You never know

This is an excellent point. Schenn's value was not at an all-time high when he was dealt either.

What type of player will Brumistrov become? He had 13 goals in his 2nd NHL season. He was OK in the AHL during the lockout. I read he worked on his overall game. Kreider did that and he's a bust according to a group of people. He had 4 goals this season for Winnipeg. The Rangers need goals. Will he become an offensive player or a good two way player? The Rangers need offense.

I like the kid. Were we to get him, it'd redeem for that awful McIlrath pick.
He is a serviceable 3rd line center right now. Getting both talents from the same year would be huge. I liked Burmistrov in his draft year.

Still like the McIlrath pick. He has the potential to be a big difference maker.

I think he was rushed. I think he has 20-35/40 potential. He will always have high hockey IQ. Someone just needs to let his talent take over because he knows the game and he has the skills. He is stronger than his size and weight portray as well.

Kreijci-like player IMO is his ceiling.

Well JVR was coming off of an injury riddled season which definitely hurt his value some. Still was a great trade for Toronto. No I am not in the DZ sucks camp but I just think Burm + 13th overall would be a pretty big return for him. I know he is a 40pt defensemen maybe with room to grow, but he isn't a complete player yet. Either way I think the Rangers are going to move a Dman at some point with how good Moore has played, and McIlrath getting closer.

I hope you are right, Burm + 13th overall would be great.

Hall will be a 6 mil cap hit starting next year. Yakupov? I don't know if Sather would trade big for a Russian with Tortorella at the helm. MPS? Looking more like Freddie Sjostrom at this point than Alffie.
Big no to Gagner. If the Rangers hadn't gotten Brassard it would make more sense. Too small at center ice and due to that, I think another team will trade more for him.

Just a FYi I didn't say you were in the MDZ sucks camp but looking at what other young top4 dmen have returned, especially puck movers, I wouldn't say that's too far off. Burmistrov was a healthy scratch for 4 games this year. He and Noel do not get along. Time to move on.

The case with Burmistrov is, a MDZ for Burmi trade is kinda high risk high reward. It's kinda the equivalent of what Holmgren pulled with Schenn/JvR, and so far it looks like it backfires for Philly. Also, not sure if WPG would even be interested in MDZ when they already have a great OD in Byfuglien and two guys who know how to get the puck in the opposite zone creatively in Bogo and Enstrφm.

However, with the play of Stralman and Moore, it sure looks like one of them could snatch a Top 4 D spot on this team. I'm just questioning if MDZ is the right guy to can. He's still very young and has shown flashes of potential at times, the obvious problem is consistency. Sometimes seems like he's not the most brainy guy. In a way, he reminds me of the Dubinsky situation: Has his strengths, but just doesn't stick to them, instead trying to be a player he's clearly not. As others surely have noted, however, there are not a lot of players who play D on a level MDZ does at his age. He will never be a Top Pairing D IMO, but he's already a damn serviceable Top 4.
Sell Girardi? Tough one, he usually gets a lot of **** around here, but he's a guy who can log 25+ minutes a night, usually looking solid in the process. That's a thing he has over MDZ. Seems to be a machine when it comes to terms of health.

Offense is even more tricky. At some point you have to buy out Richards, we can all agree on that. My main issue, though, is going with Stepan and Brassard as our centers on lines 1 and 2. I like to see Stepan as a very good 2nd line center and Brassard as a great 2nd/3rd line tweener right now (he's obviously played a lot better than that, but I'd like a bigger sample size before declaring him something more). Both have shown they have the potential to be a lot more. But relying on them as your top guys as early as next year to me means 2 more years of Hank getting older without being a real contender for the cup. Bringing in Stephen Weiss to roll him as a 3rd line center gives you a situation where you don't have a real "first" line, but you do get a 2a-2b-2c situation:
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider/Nash-Brassard-Zucc/Nash
Clowe (?)-Weiss-Zucc/xxx
The problem here of course is, you have 3 smallish pass-first centers and except for Clowe, who I'm kinda worried about, no real physicality. Kreider can bring some, remains to be seen if he can fill in a Top 9 role next year. Weiss is kinda risky as well.
I think we'll see one more year of Brad Richards (hooray!), while the rookies battle out the remaining spots in our bottom 6 with Asham (I think Boyle and Dorsett are locks). And then there's the question how Rick Nash will do in the future. That's nearly 8 million dollars of salary with a huge question mark when it comes to performance.

Our future looks a little more cloudy than last year. Hopefully, I'm proven wrong.

2013 off season moves.

• Buyout Brad Richards.
• Trade Taylor Pyatt for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Would take a 5th if it came to it.
• Trade Brian Boyle for a 2nd round pick. Would take a 3rd if it came to it.
• Trade Powe for what ever we can get.
• Package Zucc’s with Staal to the Ducks for Bobby Ryan. With the Ducks committing 17+ million to Getz and Perry and the emergence of Etem and Palmieri, rounding out the defence I think would be a priority for them.
• Sign Raffi Torres. The team needs a guy like this. His physicality in what is going to be a very tough division next year is going to be very useful.
• Sign Clowe to a one year deal at 4.5 million
• Bring in Lindberg for the 4th line center spot.
• Keep Newbury and Fasth with the big club as extra forwards to be in and out of the line up on a rotating basis

New Lines:

Chris Kreider – Derrick Brassard – Rick Nash
Ryane Clowe – Derek Stepan – Bobby Ryan
Carl Hagelin – JT Miller – Ryan Callahan
Raffi Torres – Oscar Lindberg – Derek Dorsett
Extra’s – Jesper Fasth and Kris Newbury

Ryan McDonagh – Dan Girardi
Mike Del Zotto – John Moore
Dylan McIlrath – Anton Stralman
Extra – Steve Eminger

Just for clarification, this is how I see us going into game 1 of next season:

Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Clowe-Richards (you can bet they give him another shot)-Nash
Fast (he should be able to play LW)/Pyatt-Brassard-Zuccarello (1yr contract)
Hrivik/Kreider-Boyle-Dorsett

Lindberg as depth guy who I see taking over a bottom 6 spot around Christmas.

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-MDZ

Eminger and McIlrath (who'll get a look at some point) as depth guys.

Lundqvist
Biron (1yr contract)

As you can see, I don't think there's gonna be any kind of a turnover, they'll try to roll guys they just got at the deadline and see if it sticks. The 2 biggest question marks, imho, are MDZ and Clowe.

I think he's a piece of **** and I can't stand him. I also think he'd be the guy the Rangers need. Having him and Clowe in your Top 9 potentially puts some doubt in the minds of the opposition.

As for the Ryan-idea, he's a) gonna ask for a lot of money in two years (in our situation you can't plan ahead much longer anyway, I'll give you that) and b) (more importantly) I'd hate to part ways with our best defender. Not really a fan of this, but I can see it happening.

If Richards was bought out there would be alot worse places to spend that money than Vinny. Of course, it would HAVE to be a one year deal.

Also, I am reading quite a bit in this thread about Clowe being re-signed to a bargain basement contract. That is not going to happen regardless of the injuries IMO. This guy was trying to negotiate a 7 yr deal through his agent to the acquiring team at the deadline. He is not accpeting a one or two year deal despite the injury (concussions?)
UFAs go for absurd premiums because acquiring team does not have to give up any assets. People seem to be plugging him in at what a "reasonable" salary would be. UFAs almost never receive reasonable salaries.

it only takes one GM....

With the reduced cap there won't be a ton of money out there for guys, and there will be more ufAs than usual this season. Those factors combined, plus a guy coming off two concussions in a league becoming more and more concerned with them...

Clowe isn't going to get big money

Well

1) Why do so many not want to re-sign Clowe?

2) Currently, we have no 1st, or 2nd, but 3 3rds?

3) Aren't Lindy Ruff and Slats friends?

The max term in the new CBA is 7 years (8 years if re-signing your own player). I don't see Vinny as a target and certainly not one the Rangers are going to throw a big contract at.

1) Because his impact, even when he has been healthy, hasn't been that great. If he has had 2 concussions (speculation), then that is a major concern. The injuries are a concern in any case, given his age and the style of game he plays. And if we do re-sign him, it will cost us a 2nd round pick in 2014.

2) I think that is correct.

3) No clue.

Alright. 7 year 50 million. Torts will tell Sather how good Vinny was back when he coached Tampa.

If we're talking to Winnipeg, the first player I ask about is Dustin Byfuglien. He'd be bigger for us than Burmistrov or even Kane. A real offensive defenseman with size and grit.
