Briere on TSN

Did anybody else see Danny Briere working on the TSN Panel covering the Pens/Sens game tonight? He was with Darren Pang, Craig Button, and Steve Kouleas (I think). He didn't sound too out of place, but he definitely seemed a bit nervous. I don't want to read too much into this, but could it be a sign that he is accepting the buyout and could be looking for a new career path afterward? I know I've seen other players do this before, but usually it's guys at the end of their career, not still under contract with an unrelated team.

They usually bring in active players for the playoffs. Paul Bissonnette did it a few years ago.

This =/= anything, especially him retiring. Maybe down the line? Sure.

That def isn't a face/demeanor for TV though.

He can still play, just not good enough to justify a 6.5 million dollar cap hit.

talk about over reacting...

TSN always brings in players that are out of the playoffs for their playoff panel

He wasn't overreacting. He was simply asking if you can read into it a bit.

Counter over-reacting.

I realize that. I am not expecting Briere to retire or anything. If he's bought out, he will have a bunch of other teams hoping to sign him as a UFA. I just thought it was interesting. Maybe he wants to get into broadcasting after his playing career is over.

Nice reaction to the counter-reaction which was an over-reaction to the OP's initial reaction. Say that 800 times fast, bet you can't.

Anyway as others have said I doubt he retires now but maybe this could be in his future. I didn't really think Tocchet had it in him to be a post game analysis guy, you never know I guess

What does Paul Bissonnette have to do with active players?

He's employed by an NHL team and was then. It just stuck out to me because he was outrageous on it. I was just giving an example, he was the first to come to mind.

Marty Biron often joins the TSN panel after his team is eliminated from the playoffs.

Wait a minute...he was on TSN...in Canada?!?!?! What about his divorce!? I thought he would never waive his NTC but now he is a Canadian broadcaster!? I can't believe he faked a concussion and refused to waive a NTC because of his kids and now he is going to be the host of Hockey Night in Canada!

It was a joke, because he's not a very "active player" in games. I can't believe I had to explain that one.

I'm not one of the people that say he won't waive his NMC but there's a big difference between going to Canada for a few hours a couple days a week and actually having to try to move your family.

TSN has been hiring players during the playoffs long before Mr. 15 minutes of fame did it

Like someone has mentioned, Biron has done it since he was traded to Philly (when his team is out of the playoffs)

Brodeur was on the CBC panel last night, so that would be interesting.

So this weekend?

He probably started to head up there, because the Rangers don't need a backup goalie...until Hank's shoulder didn't feel so good and suddenly they might have needed a backup goalie.
