Yeah, because there isn't nearly as much time or space. I won't take anything away from that beauty of a play but it doesn't do anything to make me more interested in the guy as a prospect. Hell of a play for juniors though.

I think it shows the level of creativity he has as a player. Those skills can make players elusive at the NHL level.

Kind of hard to offer suggestions without knowing who you and the others have already picked

Doubt it. Edmonton likely takes him at 7. They need a smaller skilled center.

Ryan Kujawinski, I've always been a fan of him, would love the Stars to pick him up.

Nick Sorensen would be a solid pick too, but like Chaos said, it's hard to say when we don't know who has been picked

I doubt Marko Dano is still there but...if so I want.

other names at 53 might be Zach Nastasiuk, Jacob de la Rose, or Shea Theodore.

Theodore at 53? What?

We'd be lucky if he were still around at Boston's pick.

One guy I want in this draft is Tommy Vanelli. He sounds like he's got some great potential. Tall, lanky RHD, he's a guy I'd love to take a risk with at the end of the 2nd or in the 3rd round somewhere. Lucas Wallmark is another guy I like, as I think he'll take a developmental path similar to Jarnkrok.

I guess I've become a bit jaded over the years. I'm less interested in the guy who can make flashy plays in junior that wouldn't work in the bigs than I am in a guy who makes perfect tape to tape passes quickly. I'm really not trying to talk him down or that play but what interests me more is the preciseness of the pass rather than the fact that he made it between the legs.

"Nichushkin Says He'll Play in North America Next Season"

http://en.rsport.ru/hockey/20130522/663592291.html

Article mentions there being interest from Tampa Bay and Nashville. That could setup an interesting scenario for centers to slide. If Nashville takes Nichushkin or Drouin, there is a chance Carolina passes on drafting a center given their depth at the position. Calgary and Edmonton could take 2 of the 3 off the board leaving Buffalo and New Jersey as wildcards. At this point there is at least one center on the board at 8 and we'd only need to move up 2 spots to grab him.

Nashville taking Nichushkin

Tampa might, and Nashville would be pretty foolish to let Drouin slide to 5th. Barkov would go at 6th at the absolute latest, though. Feaster might be willing to trade down, especially if Lindholm is his target (although 10th might be a bit far).

I'd gladly give up 10th + 27-30th + 3rd/4th to move up to 6th and snag Barkov if that were to happen.

As a division rival, you can't tell me you don't sort of hope Nashville takes Nichuskin and he runs back to the KHL!

As for moving up to 6. I'd like to retain the Boston pick *knock on wood*, not sure if we could package 10 + a player.

I couldn't do that fast enough. I do think this makes taking Nichuskin easier for some including us if he's there. I still have to hope Carolina takes a defender and that Edmonton is open to trading down if Calgary takes Monahan.

I really think we should draft Sven Andrigehtto in the 3rd round if he is still there. Still find it hard to believe he hasn't been drafted yet

With the news that Nichushkin is coming to the NHL next year, he really is that blue chip prospect that we need. I really hope we get our hands on him or Barkov.

It is NHL or nothing. He has no interest in AHL when he can play in the KHL.

No way he is making it past Carolina. They wanted to take a player that they can put in the lineup next year.

I just want to get this draft over. All these trade proposals and stuff are getting exhausting when in reality when are just gonna draft Poluck or Wennberg and that will be the end of it.

so say the top 4 centers are off the board and we'd have to reach to take the next one BUT Nichuskin is sitting there at 10 all doe eyed and hopeful... you pass?

I think that as much as the org has talked about having a ton of really great prospects but lacking the truly elite, I think we're in a great place to roll the dice on such a potentially high reward. If they feel he has what it takes to step in next season, then whats the difference in having him step in vs one of the other winger prospects?

If he's there at 10, you take him. We've got a spot for him (I wouldn't be opposed to just trying him at center) and he's got some ridiculous talent. He's not exactly what our prospect pool needs (Barkov) but he's damn close.

This is obviously not the issue. The issue would be if they don't think he's NHL ready next year he goes back to the KHL, a league where the style is vastly different from the NHL, until he's "ready". What he's saying is that he knows what's best for his long term development. I think the guy is a great prospect, and I would be excited if we got him, but he's a fairly generic case of why organizations/Dallas would be wary of a Russian. I'd hope we still roll the dice if he's there but a guy who is only willing to come to North America for an NHL gig isn't a positive.

Changing an 18 year old rookie winger to a center his first year in North America sounds like a plan for success. If we're relying on any 18 year old other than MacKinnon to play center next year we are straight up F'd in the A.
