Okay. It's been a few months.....anything changing for anybody?
Obviously I want Team Canada to win and I'm already planning a 7 am party on February 23rd, but I just think this is Russia's year. So much passion and pride on the line for them. Ovechkin with tournament MVP
Nor would I. At least there would be a house cleaning done at Hockey Canada, should this happen. My prediction:
I'd be interested to know if you still feel this way? I think we are going to have a great team, but come up just short. With the lists of players generated on here as well as the confirmed centres picked, do you feel this way still. I think the state of hockey in Canada is just fine and I have faith in HC to pick a great team.
I just don't see Russia winning it-even on home ice. Problems I see:
* Meshing the KHL/NHL talent
* An average (being generous) defense
* No bona fide #1 goalie
To me, Sweden should probably be favored. If the goaltending for Canada holds they have a great shot. I also think the U.S. will have a shot as well.
I agree that Canada is probably the strongest on paper team and with great goaltending percentage wise should take this.
But, dont under estimate home ice advantage in a short emotional tournament like this. I just FEEL like this is Russia's year. OVI is going to have a Golden Goal moment which would be awesome for hockey regardless of where your from. Not a scientific answer for me at all.
The closer the Olympics, the more I think Russia won't win the gold, mostly because how good the other teams are and how much pressure will be on our players. The only way we win if our top players dominate and our goalies play the games of their lives
Honestly, if we don't win gold but beat Canada in medal round, I'll be happy
I dont know man. While I want our team to win gold. As long as we put forth a solid effort I will be happy. If we get beat in the Gold Medal by a team playing better, how can that be a failure. In a short tournament, the "best" team doesn't always win.
