88 minutes of SHTOI over the course of 77 games doesn't even put him in the top-175 of forwards in SHTOI/G. Not exactly a "go to" on the PK, I'd say.

But still an elite PKer. Datsyuk averaged only 4 secs more on PKTOI/PG, Zetterberg had even less.

Really? We're not going to talk about the pretty goals, or the takeaways?

Kershaw really knows how to hijack a thread.

Callahan was incredible yesterday and it really sparked us on the offensive side of things. Of course the defense ruined that by having their worst performance in 5 years, but the point is Callahan was incredible. We need more of that.

No, not an elite PKer. Even trying to draw a comparison between Kovalchuk and those two players in terms of defensive play is absurd. Detroit gives them limited PK time because they're older and they want to reduce total TOI as well as limit potential for injuries. In their primes, they were seeing far more SHTOI than Kovalchuk ever has. Now, Detroit simply has PK specialists that they can rely upon so they don't have to put Datsyuk and Zetterberg in that spot.

You can try and bend the stats all you like. It still doesn't make him an elite pker, or the best pking forward in the league, or the most efficient one.

I'm not talking overall defensive play, but rather strictly PKing abiltiies. Pavel Datsyuk has never averaged over 2 min SHTOI/PG despite being a multiple time Selke Winner. Zetterberg only twice in his 11 seasons averaged over 2 mins SHTOI/PG. Rarely are team's top offensive players play on the PK, despite being the best defensive players. Kovalchuk proved since going to New Jersey and playing in a well-run system has statistically been one of the best PKing forwards in the league. It's not bending stats at all, but merely stating facts. Aside from 2003-04, he has never been given a chance to PK with the Thashers. Even best defensive players don't engage in a lot of SH TOI/PG like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Karlsson ,etc.

I think the reason so many people disagree with you all the time, including myself, is that you speak in such absolutes about players. "Kovalchuk is the best PK forward", "Hall is the most underrated player in the league", "Karlsson is the best player in hockey", "Elias is a top 5 forward" etc...

Despite Cally being my favorite player, I get annoyed when NBC highlights him or Pierre calls him the "Fearless leader of the Rangers" 5 times in a period. We know that. We know. You can stop.

Can someone explain to me why Callahan is so focused on making the lowest percentage play possible lately? Blind passes, shots into a guys shin from the top of the circle, center instead of cycle. It's been really frustrating.

He needs to realize he doesn't have the skillset to pull those moves.

He has the skillset. That's not the problem. They're poor decisions. He has the hands to make those plays when they're available, but he tries to make them when they aren't. And skillset has nothing to do with where he's trying to shoot from. It's all about decisions.

Cally was pretty bad tonight. Gotta say it.

Massive amount of giveaways.

He'll need to be better in Boston if they are going to get this back to NY.

Yes, he struggled all night with the puck. Forcing everything.

Yeah, he had a bad night. He's also been this way for most of the season, though. I don't get it. Does he miss Dubi?

Great win.

Mark my words Richards is back next game. Could be a good thing. Getting sat like that, especially the type of player Richards is - some good may come of it.

Krieder needs to play more, and even then, more again. It's not just cuz of the OT goal. The kid has speed and a great shot. The one huge bonus to both of those is SIZE.

Please, PLEASE, bring Bickel back before putting Hammer in again. I beg and pray to the Gods of Hockey.

I kept an eye on Cally tonight, and once again he just looked too tight, too concerned. He'd made a great read, come up with a clean takeaway in the neutral or offensive zone, and then make a terrible play and give it away.

I literally watched this happen 4 times in game 4. Cally steals the puck off the stick once, and intercepted 3 outlet passes, gains the zone, and just flubs the **** out of the puck. I mean, the upsides is, hey, 4 takeaways. He just doesn't seem to have any flow once he's got it.

I'm not so sure on Richards. After watching Tort's post game, I came away thinking Tort's likes very much the bump up for Kreider, and also, he mentioned that he greatly disliked the idea of putting Richards on the 4th line.

No he hasn't. He has a lot of things, but playmaking skill just isn't one of them. I can count "amazing passes" by Callahan this year on one hand.

Callahan's stick-handling/1-on-1 skill/play-making have improved a lot since his first couple of seasons. But he still has nothing more than average-slightly above average hands and play-making ability.

I don't think he's been that bad this series...... Turnovers are an issue still.

Did you see the intensity in his eyes at the beginning of the game?

Of course, how can I ignore those intangibles Callahan provides. I could stare into those eyes all day.

He is just a warrior out there. He plays with a 'chip on his shoulder' and 'has something to prove'. Absolutely fearless. Remember, he is not just a hockey player, rather a hockey player with a bulldog's mentality - a winner at any level.

Not sure which one I like more, the Pierre and Doc impersonations or the Francessa ones. Both absolutely hilarious.
