12 to 15 games will be the back-up workload with Pekka healthy but if hes injured the teams in trouble. So Hellberg staying would be the logical thing but this is athe team that re-signed Mason brought in Hannan to play a significant role so the logic become about as clear as Mud at times.
Really hope that's not the course of action the front office takes. Using a 2nd round pick on a player, then turning around and selling him early in his career for a different 2nd round pick is a huge waste of time and resources. I'm not sure why you think his value has peaked? Lindback's value skyrocketed after being backup to Rinne for a couple seasons. I could see Hellberg taking an identical path as Lindback.

The goalie prospect pool is bare. We definitely can't afford to give away what we have for picks. Let Hellberg develop for a couple seasons, then go from there. If his value drops, then so what. That's what prospect development is all about.

Hellberg's value is at it's highest right now and we can get a late 2nd for him? Considering he was a mid second just a couple years ago we obviously should hang on to him then.

Good thing we locked him up prior to that goal. Would've likely cost us another $5k on his ELC...

I disagree on Smith. He fell apart and then got injured in the AHL. He isn't ready for the NHL as a back-up in my opinion. I have 1/2 STX for the Admirals.

Why don't you become the GM and just release Hellberg? What happens if Rinne's surgery didn't go well or he gets hurt? The Preds are screwed with Smith as #1.

Pekka should play less so his career lasts longer. Playing 65 or 70 games isn't good for most goalies in the long run.

Leipsic: 211 points in 201 games overall. Granted its the WHL, I'll take it though. Excited to see him play.

I agree, and those offensive numbers are incredible, I think people are underestimating his offensive potential. Seems like a guy that knows where to go to score goals.

I've said it before but it bears repeating. The WHL numbers are misleading. We had another prospect who had 209 points in 220 WHL games, and we all know how well those numbers translated to the NHL for a certain Mr Jordin Tootoo.

I'm gonna have to at least see some AHL scoring before I get excited about this guy

Yep. I'll look it up, but about 5 years ago, Paul Postma (Thrash) had a monster year in the dub on D. He was like a +63. He's barely a bottom pairing D now.

Edit: In 08-09 with the Calgary Hitmen, he was +67 with 84 pts. (23+61)

When I watched highlites of Tootoo though, you saw the same thing over and over, he used his speed coming down the wing and just blasted a slapper at the net. I bet 70% of his points came off plays like this.

Leipsic, drives the net, and scores in tight. To me that translates better to the NHL.

What that meant to say was Puustinen signed with HIFK of SM-liiga. Shame, he was one of my favorite players the last couple of years.

Former Preds draftee D Jeff Foss has signed with KalPa in the SM-liiga for next season. He has never been signed by the Preds, but has been playing for Milwaukee on an AHL deal. Missed the majority of last season with a knee injury suffered in the first exhibition game of the season.

KalPa is partially owned by former Preds captain Kimmo Timnonen IIRC...

the fact that he didnt get a callup even with all the injuries this past year probably made him realize where he stood on the depth chart, and at 25 his window is probably closed. For some reason I thought he was our draft pick and was younger but apparently he was drafted by Calgary and we signed him as a free agent

Preds did not sign 2011 draft picks Simon Karlsson or Brent Andrews, so both are eligible to re-enter the draft.

Cam Reid was also not signed by June 1, and is now a UFA.

Can anyone fill me in on where Aberg stands, please? How's he progressing and projections for next season? He's a prospect I keep forgetting about, but IIRC, he was supposedly a steal for us in the 2nd round. I believe many mocks had him going in the mid-to-late first round (I think I read that Tampa was really interested in him for their pick).

Had a great year this year in their 2 sweed elite. Has much the same season as ff witch is to say he had a very good year. Kid has the best chance at being a top 6 that we have drafted of late. Though I think in a few years we will be seeing good things from jimmy vesey
