I like Callahan but he's the Rangers captain, another expensive option.

Hartnell might be an option.

Edit: I like the Fleischmann idea (I brought him up a long time ago), but not sure Floreda will be willing to trade him.
Dam you have to remember history... NO WAY Downie even shows his nose here

A vet like Streit would be a good 2-3 year stop gap until the rookies in our system solidify into good NHL players. I would also consider trading away a top prospect, like Stone, packaged with something else to bring in a solid 3/4 guy.

Anyway, the lack of D who could clear the zone efficiently basically roasted us against the Pens. This needs to be corrected before we can push deeper into the playoffs.
I think management will wait & see how Wiercioch & Ceci do next season. My guess is that they expect both those guys to have an impact. Wiercioch next yr in Ottawa & Ceci in Bingo with the possibility of making it to Ottawa by the trade deadline.

No but really, not the time for it. It should be locked until it's actually more relevant.

Off-season talk should normally take place in the off-season....

This is the summer to make a quantity for quality deal. With the cap coming down and the team moving from rebuild phase to contender phase we need to add a legitimate top-six (ideally top-line) winger.

Trade/UFA - Spezza - Briere
Michalek - Turris - Alfredsson
Silfverberg - Zibanejad - Neil
Greening - Pageau - Condra
Kassian

I would attempt to package guys like Conacher, Smith, O'Brien with some of our surplus forward prospects (Stone, Nosen, Puempel, Petersson, Da Costa, Hoffman, ect) in exhange for a better winger. Worst case scenario toss Conacher/Hoffman into the lineup.

We could probably use another defenceman, but I'm actually comfortable going in to the season with Karlsson, Cowen, Methot, Phillips, Wiercioch, Gryba if we fail to re-sign Gonchar or make another move.

There's a real possibility Alfie retires after this year. And if we don't re-sign Gonchar which I'm also fine with, we will have some serious cap floor problems. I actually think we may be force to spend some money whether we like it or not.

Are people wanting to trade for Briere or sign Briere if he gets amnestied?

I wouldn't mind signing him but it would be a waste of assets to trade for him.

There's no room for Briere

Spezza
Alfredsson
Michalek
Turris
Conacher
Silfverberg
Zibanejad
Greening
Condra
Neil
Smith
Pageau
Kassian
O'Brien

That's 14 + Stone, Prince, Noesen as call-ups. Good to go.

I wish we had something like a young Kuba play with Karlsson so the duo would be dangerous together. Methot is good too though.

Pascal Dupuis anyone? scored 20 goals in 48 games, with minimal powerplay time. could be a gem with zibby and silf on a third line,, the only problem i see is him asking for a big contract.

I don't see that as a problem. I also think Zibby might get dealt this offseason.

He is the main forward building block going forward. Not happening

Briere said he wouldn't waive his NMC, but that was at the deadline.

Maybe we could trade a 3rd for Briere and a 2nd.

Brière will waive his NMC, he just didn't want to do it during the season.

I posted about going for Dupuis in another similar thread a while back, and I still think he would be a great addition. Having said this, I think his first choice would be to stay with the Pens and I would be shocked if they did not re-sign.

I'm starting to warm up to the thought of picking up Briere. He has a high compete level in the playoffs, which is exceptionally valuable to a young team like the Sens. He is not my favourite player by a long shot, but I would totally understand if they make the move.

I'm ok with Zibby being moved if it lands us a very good defenseman, otherwise probably not so much. This may stem from my frustration with him in this series, and my hope that he is benched next game, and I may change my mind after the playoff dust has settled.

Just in case people dont realize: Briere will be 36 for the upcoming season; last season Briere was on pace for 38pts in 82 games.

No room now.

I would not put it past management to try to turn their quantity of forwards into a top-line guy. A 3-for-1 sort of deal.

Not saying it's going to happen, but if it does, Briere might make sense. Otherwise, yeah, I agree: with Conacher and Pageau, it doesn't seem like there's a roster spot for Briere right now.

All right, who's the best winger that could be had for Michalek and Conacher?
