Brad Richards

so his status is obviously up in the air; benched for the Rangers win tonight. He's obviously a player we all wanted 2 years ago, may be waived or bought out, would you take him in Toronto?

With you there, also if Bozak wants to walk(demands to much) I would be prepared to give Briere (35yrs old) a few years contract for the same money (4m x 3) if he is bought out. I would even trade someone for him, I like the guy real playoff performer even if older.

I'd like us to sing Richards for like 2 years max when he's bought out. A top 6 consisting of Kadri/Richards as centers is Lethal, not to mention we have amazing winger depth

If the Rangers buy him out and the contract makes sense. No more than 3 years and no more than 4 million.

He wanted to be a Ranger, the graveyard for free agents. Remember reporters staking out Newport a couple of summer's ago. Richards is 33, would take him for 2 years, but that contract is bad, signed to 2020.

LMAO ... and I remember all the whining here about how we'd never be good just because we weren't willing to sign those types of deals.

Aging underperforming player with pedigree. If and only if he is actually bought out, give him a 1 year around the minimum league salary and the chance to redeem himself. Same scenerio as what Redden and Gomez were resigned for after being amnestied.

Ok, I don't want the guy, but 1 year league min? Are you joking? There is 100% without a doubt not a chance on this planet he would ever sign that, even if guaranteed a cup while not having to play a shift.

Remember, he would have been compliance bought out. That means that NYR and the rest of the league would have deemed him with his contract basically less than worthless. He will have walked away from the NYR with a boatload of money from the buyout. I can see that there might be teams offering much more than the minimum, thinking he is a free wallet, but Toronto should not be one of them imo. However, from Richards perspective, he may well look at Toronto as an excellent market and stage to show that he still has a lot of gas in the tank. But, don't forget he has underperformed this year...perhaps he is already done as an elite player; perhaps he is nothing more than a Connolly 2 right now.

Yes, he would be bought out, but this isn't a Wade Redden, where the guy was toiling in the AHL...the guy still paced for a 60 pt season and isn't that far removed from being a PPG player. He is simply not worth the contract he has now, but he is still worth more than 1 mil per season.

Phil Kessel would score 40+ goals and 100 points with Brad Richards as his center.

He would be a big upgrade on Bozak.

Well said. Thankfully, Nonis said that he's not planning to acquire aging players. It's not like we're going to be winning the cup next season. Let's be reasonable and stick with what we have.

Desperate move. We let Bozak walk, and have give Spencer Abbott a chance to take Mikhail Grabovski's spot. While he may be better in the AHL for one year, he did play quite well in the playoffs this year. May as well, "play the kids" next season.

Grabo for him would be fine, it's Richards after all. Would take Briere to replace Bozak as well but they would need to take Komisarek.

If he gets bought-out and we can acquire him for around 3-4mil for 3 years then by all means go for it. He'd be a huge upgrade in the 1 hole.

Not even a question that he's an upgrade to Bozo. If he gets bought out, I'd think about it short term, $4m.

Yes for sure if that situation comes about. Not sure it will but Richards and Briere and Kadri would mean we need a vet backup G and a D. We would be married to them and try and contend with them. I think we could and start drafting C's to replenish

You can't be serious.

Even Holzer got above league minimum.

The problem with Nonis even back in Van was he never really made a big deal outside Lu, we could have been better defensively this year and beat the Bs but Nonis is just so tight that way.

Collapse aside the reason we lost to Boston was Nonis not doing anything at the TDL

Grabo for Richards would be horrible, especially if you could get Richards for a much better deal if he gets bought out. As good as Briers is I wouldn't want him and Richards, it just takes to much space away from our younger players.

If Richards were bought out then he would have a choice of many teams to chose from as a UFA.

Top line capable centers are on many teams wish lists and with the buyout money Richards could sign a very cap friendly deal with the team of his choice.

Doesn't really fit in with what we're doing here, and arguably isn't even an upgrade on any of the scoring centers we have now.
