1 year later, he is STILL a curiosity.

One of the best I've ever seen at firing his way up the ice. But his center of gravity gets too high and he has difficulty turning quickly because of his size. He gets the puck lost under his feet, and hasn't learned how to cover for a blueliner advancing.

Send him to hockey school this summer. He needs to learn to play the game at this level, rather than just jump out of pools and perform other athletic feats.

Thats a crock of ****. I have never said kreider has a great year . I have been critical of his flaws. i have always said that he had a brtal start of the year. I do think he has learned alot from this year and has done better as the year as the end of the year and playoffs have come along.

I can't think of another player with a 3:1 ratio of playoff goals to regular season goals. Except for Torey Krug whose ratio is infinity.

Maybe we should wait until a full 82 game season instead of like 23 regular season games

Or that having Kreider filling that role over them resulted in additional wins? I can't agree with that. And I can't agree with that strategy for developing your #1 prospect. When he was sent down, he should have stayed down. When he was hot in the AHL, he should have been allowed to ride out that hot streak.

According to some people Torts is a piece of **** for holding players accountable for their own awful mistakes. There was one play, can't remember if it was at the end of the season or in the playoffs where Kreider completely boycotted his defensive abilities and skated all the way to the other side of the ice to open up space for the other team. It was truly one of the most boneheaded plays that I've ever seen from an NHL player. Kreider clearly has a lot to learn and Torts HAS to send him a message. If he hasn't picked it up by now somones got to teach him. People act like one goal erases everything.

Game 7 against the Caps he gave up that 2 on 1, Caps blew the play and Asham scored. Huge swing.

Yea, that's when it was. I remember my friends and I joking about it, "Kreider's generating offense with his mistakes."

But what a big goal it was.
Thing is people will remember this goal more than the "bonehead" play for the simple reason that players make bonehead plays all the time, but only few score an OT winner to extend a season.

NHL players know their defensive responsibilities. Kreider has to learn them or he's not going to make it in this league. People act like his poor play is all a result of the ice time Torts gives him

you seem to focus on one bad play from a previous series. It was a bad miscue that led to a goal for US. As i have said many times he is only a rookie so that will improve. However his defense has been fine other than that one play against washington

I don't know about others, but my issue is his chain being yanked repeatedly. He should have stayed down in hartford to play extensive minutes, instead of being called up to be scratched or play 5 minutes on the 4th line.

I can't really fault them for calling him up and giving him opportunities. If he would have stayed in Hartford for a long period of time people would be ripping Sather and Torts for not giving him a shot. This whole Kreider situation stinks of Joba Chamberlain 2.0. At some point the player just has to start producing. Hopefully last night was a sign of good things to come.

The sample size on him is so small....we need a full 82 game schedule to really see what this kid can do and at least give him top 9 minutes for christ sakes

You do realize that this site doesn't update prospect rankings every day, correct? You also realize that these rankings are the subjective views of one writer, correct?

You are in the most everyone group. I can actually name people in the opposite group. Myself, Kershaw, stan, and a couple of others that escape me right now. Kreider has been pretty much untouchable to most people in terms of criticism.

Much like you, many people just have excuses for the kid. I was part of that group for his college years and even for some of his AHL time. I'm done making excuses for him. He needs to have a good year next year wherever he is.

I understand that Kreider was up and down, but I'd rather have him either stay in the AHL or in the NHL. Not up and down. Even with his flaws, I think should have been playing regular fourth line minutes with a bump up for improved play. An Etem-like role. That said, the regular season has passed, no need to harbor on it. What matters is the here and now, and Kreider is making a big impact right now.

Glad to see him playing well enough to get time with the big boys. Kreider-Stepan-Nash has looked real good together, and I think Kreider/Nash work well off of each other. Honestly, think of how much we love Hagelin — now imagine that Hagelin is 6'3, 230 with a sick shot. That's Kreider's upside. He oozes so much potential, and when he's in a groove, he looks excellent in the top-6. I think he needs to stick there, gives us a lot more size and talent in our top-6. Move Hags down. Makes the third line a little more dangerous offensively.

I don't comment on NCAA or international prospects. I don't see them that much to have any educated input.

The statement I have a problem with is:

On April 18th Leslie wrote an article that Kreider was still a top prospect for the NY Rangers.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...-york-rangers/

Torts received good reports on Kreider while he was in the AHL
Quote:
“When he started scoring some goals there, there were still some things in his game that [Whale coach Ken Garnander] and those guys down there want him to work on,” Tortorella said Tuesday. “But the reports on him are good. Over the weekend, the two games they won, we got some really good reports with him.”
Forgive me if i consider those more legitimate sources than HF posters.

No. The problem was that he wasn't playing very good hockey. 1 game doesn't change it around. I am very disappointed in Kreider's play this season.

I don't know why some of you attacked Kreider when he was playing with the likes of Asham, Powe, Pyatt, and Richards. Put him out there with some talent and good things happen.

Because Kreider's play didn't warrant a promotion with 'some talent'.
