In my opinion, we'll finish 10th in the east. Our defence hasn't much depth...and that'll be the factor of the bad performances of both Aeby and Huet for a good period of the season.

I have different view into this. Defense was not the problem with Habs last season. Even with Theodore melting down Canadiens allowed fifth least goals in the East. The issue was we also scored fifth least goals for ... so it is easy to see why Gainey had his emphasis on improving our forward corps and offence, much more room to improve there.

Voted 6th place.

I say 8th. The competition is really tight and we're going to have to play hard every night to get into the playoffs. I think we can do it, but it won't be easy.

We're an improved team, but a lot of teams we're going to be fighting with have adressed their needs.

I thought you denounced all that was Bleu Blanc and Rouge and jumped ship over to Leafland?

Could this be disguised trolling?

Right now we are in the middle of the pack. I see this only to get better as the year goes on. Bob needs to solidify a few more positions on this team and then we move up from there.

no clue, for me we should be a playoff team unless Huet sucks. If Huet can't play well it's going to be ugly around here. A good season from him and we stay injury free for the most part, at least to the big 3 (koivu, markov, kovalev) we should make the playoffs.

will be interesting to see how carbo does as a rookie coach. can't wait for 2 more days to get here. I'll be watching the Hamilton-Moose game at 730 on my computer, then Habs at 8 pm where I will flip back and forth with the Minnesota-Maine game which also starts at 8 pm but I will tape it so I can see Fischer play the full game since I don't think they play again for 2 more weeks.

I think 6th or 7th.

Buff
Car
NJ
Ott
Bos

all ahead of us imo. Boston looks real good with Toivonen.

We'll be just ahead of Florida, Tampa, Toronto, Philly, Rangers imo.

Atlanta could be in there too if Lehtonen stays healthy.

gone from Last year team

Zednik - Soft, inconsistant had his worse year in a hab uni.

bulis - wanted out of montreal by mid december.

Ribeiro - Was in the doug house most of the year. really disapointed

sundstrom - Never notice him once last year

Theo - Ran himself out of montreal with a disgusting effort in net. night after night of bad goals.

Seriously how did we make the playoffs with a bunch of no shows for a god part of the season.

I would like to think that this years team improuve by a fair margin. We addid talent up front with samsonov, addid a nice piece to the 3rd line. Are goaltending will not go as low as theodore went last year. We got hungry young players in plekanec, latendresse. and finaly we got a coach in carboneau who will get the best out of his players. 5th or 6th should be reasonable for this team. A avalanche of injurys are pretty much the only thing that can stop this club from making the playoffs.

Ahead of Ottawa?

I think we will finish ahead of Buffalo and that Ottawa will clinch the division...

McKee will be a huge lost. He was the key to their turnover and transition game. He blocked so many shots, and this is the key with that kind of game Buffalo play. This is kindda the same system than Tampa played the year they won the cup..

They played a tight and agressive defensive diamond that would not allow too many good shot and is real quick on the transition. In Tampa, they got their confidence on Bulin back. In Buffalo McKee was the glue of that system..

Dumont will be missed. Connolly will miss part of the season..

NorthEast
----------------
Ottawa
Montreal
Buffalo
Boston
Toronto

I think Buffalo is pretty good young team, but will suffer a stepback this year and fight for the playoff.

I don't see Boston as being better. They could easily finish ahead of the Habs, but I'd still put them in a middle pack of teams that includes Montreal, Philly, and NYR. I guess I have a bias against the Southeast division, because I'd put Tampa, Florida, Atlanta and Toronto in the next pack.

The hard thing is that Montreal is going to have a win a lot of points from its division to do well. That means stacking up against two Cup favourites and two probable/potential playoff teams. NJ, NYR and Philly can at least feast on the Penguins and Islanders, and the Southeast can feast on itself, as that division tends to send only one team to the playoffs, which turns out to be the Stanley Cup winner.

So I pick 6th in the Conference.

I said 5th because I truly believe this team has the makings of a Buffalo/Carolina story from last season.

I love how everyone points to our "weakness" on defence and the question mark of Huet. The fact is that we have 7 bonafied NHL calibre defencemen and 2 bonafied NHL starting goaltenders.

The biggest joke is how people list the Leaf's strength as their "D" but 4 of their 7 defencemen would be playing in Hamilton if they were Montreal's property. I believe that our defence corps is atleast as good as Buffalo's or Carolina's yet I don't hear anyone saying that their Achilles heal is their defence. We have 3 strong pairings and as far as I am concerned a team's defence is only as strong as it's weakest link. As far as I can see there is no weak link on this defence corps.

This team has alot of depth at every position and has the ability to overcome injuries because of how interchangeable many of our players are.

The combination of talent, depth and coaching make this team a serious force to be considered. The real reason that people underestimate this club is because of it's lack of star power but in today's NHL, overpriced stars create holes in the lineup as GM's can't afford quality players to fill out their lineups....that is not the case in Montreal.

This is not an old team and there really isn't anyone who should be on the decline, however, there are many players who are very capable of improving on their performance of a year ago where we finished 7th and almost ousted the Stanley Cup champs. If it wasn't for Theodore's brutal display of goaltending, Souray's marital problems (he played great hockey for the second half), Ryder's back problems and Julien's conservative chicken**** coaching we could very well have finished 4th last season. Let's not forget the fact that Higgins, Plekanec, Perezhogin and Komisarek should be even better this season. We have even added a real wildcard in Latendresse who at worst should be an effective physical force playing with Begin and at best...........dare to dream.

As for Huet, he has now put together two consecutive strong seasons and if he stumbles we have a proven goaltender in Aebischer to back him up.

For me the only real question is Carbonnaeu but I am very confident in him and the players should respond well to him.

People who know me on these boards know that I am very objective and never act like the typical homer, I have no problem critisizing this team but this season I think this team is going to make a few tv celebrities look pretty foolish.

Wow,I don't think you guys understand how good the Rangers really are,IMO they are my pick in the East.We can forget about NJ they are on the way down the Rags will win that division and also I see them playing for the cup.I think Lundqvist is the real deal and adding players like Shanahan,Cullen and Ward who all won the cup will just make them that much better.

Boston who knows what to expect from them. They are in the same boat as us with the goalie situation but the difference IMO is that if the Bruins loose a top 6 players with an injury they are screwed,We have 4 solid lines and can replace pretty much anyone, they can't.

Just watch the Rags this year
