I promise all of us Flyers fans aren't being overly dramatic. He is just awful.

Not to mention he extended being great in the playoffs, which most teams would be considering when bidding for him anyhow.

Dealing with concussion issues this season may have something to do with his lack of production(admittedly, alongside his age) this year.
Nope, he was brutal last year. He went on like a 20 game goal-less streak at one point.

As for this year, he was useless before getting hurt so the concussion really had no affect on him.

I like Briere, he was good for us for most of his time here but the last two years were rough. I wish him well wherever he goes but I'm afraid he doesn't have much left.

He'd be what the Canucks need, enough two way play tweeners but a guy who can provide some spark in the playoffs. Don't think it's at all possible with his kids though.

Realistically, what would the Flyers want from Ottawa to take on the contract?

If they intent to buy out, I would guess future consideration. Will Daniel Brière accept the trade is the question. He may just want to refuse any trades, get bought out and then decide his destiny.

He's only owed 5M, not really massive.

I would of said Rutkowski, but I realized he recently signed...

At this point, I don't think the Flyers can ask for anything in a trade except futures or maybe a low pick.

I'll take nothing for him. Please go away, Briere.

I was thinking 2 project prospects - ie Andre Petersson and Louie Caporusso + a 4th round pick.

I realize that this is a weak offer, but the Sens would be absolutely pleased to take on his cap hit/contract.

This is a situation where I could see it working out. There's NO reason for the Sens not to be in on Briere - despite what people are saying about him being done.

Hope Briere waives to come to Ottawa.

I would have taken a 2055 conditional 7th, but this will do

Ottawa doesn't make all that much sense to me both for him and the Senators. Sure they could use him as a winger because they already have Spezza and Turris but there are going to be better options available at wing anyway and the Sens would be wiser to spend their money elsewhere. Couple that with Briere not wanting to touch Canada or anywhere else remotely far from the Northeastern part of the U.S. and it just doesn't fit. He'll be very selective. Vancouver and other fans of teams out West shouldn't get their hopes up. If he plans on keeping his home in Philly and living there, then rule out all those teams. No chance he makes that move.

The exception, I think, is Buffalo. I think he would move back here because his sons grew up here as well as Philly but he might only be willing to commute and wants to keep his current home no matter what. But that all depends if A.) Briere would be willing to come back after leaving and B.) he'd be okay with playing for a non-Cup contender in the late years of his career. He's probably looking to go to a contender at this point. I'd take him back in Buffalo very quickly (he was my favorite player here) but at this point it might be just because it'd be sentimental. I still think he's a good player but he's clearly regressing and his defensive game is pretty bad (that'd be a big problem here, as we struggled for the same reasons with our own forwards this season). His size also doesn't help us. If he could effectively play as the second line center I'd be all for it, but I'm not sure he's good enough to do that anymore. That's what we'd need him for. I'd be interested in him for nostalgic reasons and for his leadership and being a guy who can mentor our young players like Hodgson, Ennis, and Myers more than his actual play at this point. It's a tough one for me. Buffalo makes some of the most sense for him but in reality, maybe not for us and we 've longed for him back or another #1 center for years. The ship may have already sailed with him now.

We have new ownership since he left though, much better ownership. And a pretty talented, young team with a brand new head coach. So a lot has changed. Maybe he'd strongly consider coming back. After all, he's still a favorite in Buffalo despite leaving. Many fans would be very happy to see him come back and wear a Sabres sweater again.

If Briere were to agree to waive, things could get interesting. Let's say (for argument's sake) that he says he wants to stay in the east coast area around Philadelphia and (for our Ottawa friends) includes Ottawa (but not Montreal), I'd see the Islanders kicking the tires, maybe Washington, Ottawa and perhaps New Jersey. Here are the prospects I'd ask for:

Islanders: Scott Mayfield (D) / Calvin De Haan (D)
Capitals: Riley Barber (RW) / Philipp Grubauer (G)
Devils: Alex Urbom (D) / Damon Severson (D)
Senators: Mark Stone (RW) / Mark Borowiecki (D)

Of course, I'm not expecting Briere to waive, as he stands to gain much more (money and decision-making ability) in allowing himself to be amnestied.

So - where does everyone think Briere ends up? NJ, NYI, Buff, NYR ??

Can he be a second line C at this point in his career?

I think I would take him on the Isles for 1 yr , 1 million to play 2nd C

Thoughts??

I don't know. If he can produce offensively he is fine but if he doesn't he's useless because he's so awful defesnevly.

I am guessing somebody will give him 2.5-3M(a season) for 2 years and my money is on the Devils

It would be fun to watch him on line with JT and see what kind of results they get. If islanders grab Bernier from L.A the Islanders would be that much more fun to watch.

I wonder if the Habs will throw offer at him again.

Yeah, that won't happen in a million years.
