He will get the best deal. The way i look at it is if you are scared to play against a player, then why the heck are you trading him.

He shouldn't need balls... just common sense... take the best deal... facing them a handful of times in the regular season doesn't really matter for the next few years

Agreed. While they're still good, Buffalo won't be. Besides, who's to say either player doesn't sign as a UFA in the East regardless? Take the best deal, period.

I don't think he moves them during the offseason. At the deadline he will.

No one will need a goalie at the deadline. Good teams will be set in net long before then.

Also, new playoff breakdown, so the Atlantic just got a lot more trade-friendly.

This is the most important part of the situation.

Darcy can't possibly control where they are playing in 2014. He can try, through an extension or sign and trade, but it boils down to the fact that both are free to go anywhere in 13 months.

29 teams should be on the table for Vanek, 21 for Miller.

This. I cannot recall a team in playoff contention trading for a starting goalie at the deadline at any point.

He'll trade Vanek at the deadline and re-sign Miller, like the moron he is.

I think the general negative attitude toward trading within the division is stupid. You should always take the best offers available. If you're a good GM you are weakening your opponent more than you are helping them anyways... cept for maybe in the short-term (but, in that case, you probably don't care about the short-term).

The reluctance is archaic.

Let's not forget Toronto was actively pursuing Luongo at the deadline.

Move Miller for what you can get when you can get it. Goalie trades are tricky, UFA goalie trades even trickier... Nobody wants to rent a goalie unless they need a short term answer for an injured starter.

But trade him ASAP if the team is as convinced he's leaving no matter what next summer anyway, like I am.

I don't think he'd trade them inside the division (using next years realigned format), but feel like he'd have no problem trading either to the rest of the East. Probably would prefer to send them out West, but if Eastern teams are making better offers, he'll take the best one.

Trading him to a division team, only to have him sign elsewhere next summer, leaving a division opponent with nothing is the best case scenario.

But since there is no way to prevent Miller and Vanek from going wherever they want its silly to try and manipulate it via selective trading.

I will find it hard to believe he has excepted a full rebuild until he trades one of them. I'd be surprised if he doesn't first try to sign both to extensions, if they say no, then he will trade them.

As for the question, yeah, I don't think it will be that big of a deal to trade in East. Now to TO or MON, I doubt that.

I doubt he trades them in the division unless he's blown away still, but if we're legitimately rebuilding, who cares if they're in the conference? We're not expecting to actually compete while they're still effective players anyway. If we were, we wouldn't be trading them.

If anything that speaks to me of more interest than you'd think simply looking at transaction histories. It's just that most teams aren't willing to break the bank for a goaltender other teams are willing to move.

Does the CBA prevent discussions that essentially determine a new contract via sign-and-trades? EX, Phoenix says they'll take Miller for up to five years at no more than a 6 mil cap hit. Regier discusses with him/his agent, they agree and sign an extension knowing that it's only a formality to execute the trade. Miller and his new deal go to Phoenix for XXX an hour after the contract is signed.

I've always thought this was allowable but I haven't gone through the new CBA much.
