His age, his health (most likely two concussions since arriving in NY), and his declining play are all huge red flags. Let him walk.

McDonagh, Staal, Girardi, Moore, Stralman. McIlrath can get his shot and play bottom pair minutes. No shortened season in 13-14 so it wont be as critical with a young guy as it was with Kreider in 2013. Del Zotto can be moved to acquire a young forward. Eminger and another cheap veteran can be signed for defense depth.

Hypothetically.

Would rather throw what he would command at Nathan Horton even at the risk.

1-2 years for no more than 2.5 million a year because of what his issue is now. Even then it may be a crappy deal cause we'd lose a pick and potentially Clowe as well.

Nope

Sorry - they are not gonna let him walk despite the concerns. If his demands are out of line, I'd be shocked if anyone else took a chance on him - Slats loves his acquisitions, and he probably fell head over heels based on that first game against Pitt, like Forrest Gump on Jenny. If we're lucky, he'll settle for one year, but more likely 2-3 years 3 mil a year with us hoping it's not IHOP scrambled eggs all over the place.

I liked what I saw from him and would like to see more but it's probably not worth the risk. maybe if he takes a 1 year deal.

Bye bye

Gave up too much for him and he got injured.

He's going to wear out quick with the game he plays and isn't getting younger.

He will request way more than he's worth.

Go after Clarkson

I didn't like the trade to begin with, but they just got unlucky with the concussion stuff. His prior injury was shoulder, and he was playing decently before the concussion. Had he not gotten hurt he may have had a good playoffs.

At this point however you have to think keeping the second is a priority.

That's what I said the other day. 2-3 years about 3-3.5 per. Likely will happen, but can't say I want it too much. If it happens and Richardsis bought out, which I hope but doubt will happen, this might workout ok

Contract and health are obviously the deciding factors but the rangers need exactly this type of player. Tough, experienced, hard nosed hockey player. Great role model for everyone on our team with the exception of our very few skilled players.

There is not a single guy on our team that can hit hard, fight, and score.

The question is what is he willing to do? From his perspective he could be another concussion away from retirement which means he could care less where he goes as long as he gets the most cash/yrs.

If he's willing to gamble & go with a 1yr deal to prove he's effective still then I think I'd be all over it. That's a pretty big IF.

I voted let him go based on the uncertainty of his (repeated) concussions, combined with him apparently seeking a mammoth contract.

Even at a reduced rate, i'd let him go and rather try a younger player who could potentially benefit the organization for the next 10 years.

Is also has to do with contracts. They give Gomez and Holik ridiculous contracts and the fans perceive that as "well, he must be really good!", so they expect that kind of production from them.

Clowe is a pretty solid fit into Torts system, but we need to shift to a system that can start scoring.

He's the type of player that will deliver hits and sacrifice his body, but he's not getting younger, and that poses a huge risk to the team.

Clowe, UFA in July, says he's open to returning to NYR. He said he was close to getting back. He wouldn't say concussion, but he hinted it.

I'd let him walk. He is 30 years old, had an underwhelming season, and has had his production decline for three consecutive seasons. He has also recently been injury prone.

And he won't come at a cheap price tag. Frankly, I'm done with signing underachieving players past their prime who come at a healthy price tag.

He's going to fetch well over $3 million, probably closer to $5 million, and because of that, and the other reasons I mentioned, I'd stay well clear of Clowe.

Unless we're resigning an electric UFA or retaining a top RFA, I want to stay away from the free agency market.

I know people will say that the NYR have plenty of cap space, but McDonagh, Hagelin, and Stepan are all due for a nice raise (I know they're RFA but I can't picture McDonagh coming in at any less than $4 million - he will get the kind of raise Callahan and Dubinsky got from RFA, same thing for Stepan, and I doubt Hagelin gets any less than $2 million). Then you have to factor in Lundqvist comes off the books in 13-14 and even with a home discount will come in at a decent cap hit if he decides to resign. And if you sign Clowe for $4-5 million for multiple years, it will further handicap re-signing Lundqvist, Girardi, Del Zotto, etc, in 13-14 if Sather does indeed decide to resign those players.

And I don't doubt Clarkson, with his ability to "score and fight" -something that makes GM's scream like little girls in this league- will be getting a ridiculous contract.
