Only time he was really that effective last night was below the goal line and in the corners, which we all know he excels doing that.
Pair of goals for Hartikainen in a 4-2 decision for Oklahoma. If that's Teemu being exposed, we have a lot to look forward to next year.

Rajala had two helpers and Fedun had one. Good road game for the boys, hopefully they can get it done over the next two at home.

Have to admit what the Barons are doing is quite impressive. Routinely outshooting their opposition, both at home and on the road, and doing it with a roster that doesn't have an excess of top end AHL talent at any one position (except maybe goal).

Don't know if this is all Nelson's work, but he does deserve a ton of credit, as do the players themselves.

And they're actually playing better without Hall/Eberle/RNH/Schultz. That's amazing. It's not often that a team can get significantly better (and they are significantly better) after losing essentially 4 top players. And they don't have Paajarvi or Lander either.

It has nothing to do with Teemu'a offensive output, moreso him getting caught up in transition game. Grand Rapids plays a fun style, fast paced and that's what I was afraid of. Game 1 he had 3 Griffons swarm him before he could even get it deep.

They looked a lot more human last night, or the Barons looked quicker is probably more accurate. Had to think game 1 were a little rusty from the lay off.

Are all of the series a 2-3-2 format in the AHL? If so, I'd almost want to be the lower seed.

Probably so he can get an early start on his summer training? Maybe he's nursing an injury? He's probably pretty far down the depth chart so he wasn't looking at getting any ice-time.

I thought you meant released like the Oilers organization released him, I was worried for a second.

I'm not surprised to see Rajala and Hartikainen working well together, as they were 2/3 of Finland's top line (Granlund was their center) during their stint at the WJHC.

Harti plays best with other Nords, like Lander, Petrell and Paajarvi. When he's up with the Oil playing with Jones, Belanger or Smyth then he doesn't do as well.

I imagine most carbon-based life forms would suffer a similar fate.

Also high-jacking the thread, but semi related to the Nordic's. I wouldn't be against the Oilers trying the Nordic line (the Hartikainen-Lander-Paajarvi version) as their 3rd/checking line next year.

Experience be damned, the three play well together, and let's be honest: getting a strong consistent effort out of the third line would be much better than filling it with "proven" UFA role players who then feel that they have nothing left to prove.

Hartikainen-Lander-Paajarvi
Petrell-Smithson-Brown

Nothing great, but at least there's no more corpses that have been populating the bottom six for years. Go after Clowe in the offseason, or maybe talk TB in to a Hemsky for Malone swap and suddenly the top 9 doesn't look as pillowy soft as it once did.

Malone/Hall-RNH-Eberle
Hall/Malone-Gagner-Yakupov
Hartikainen-Lander-Paajarvi
Petrell-Smithson-Brown

I would feel safer signing a guy like Bickell or Stalberg to be 3rd line LW. Hartikainen needs to get much faster to play that role. They do have greta chemistry though.

Then in a year or two if PRV is capable of 2nd line LW bring Rajala into the third line RW spot. Hes small, but if you have 2 bigger bodies, Rajala adds scoring touch.

Also no doubt in my mind Fedun makes the Oilers next season.

Since the Oilers last made the playoffs, one of the consistent problems with our roster is placing guys in roles they either aren't ready for or aren't good enough for.

It's about time we stop doing that.

Pretty hard to avoid this when:

a) Your best players are 14 years old.

b) You don't have many good players.

So what's the word on CJ Stretch? Seems to be playing an important role in the barons playoff run. Should there be any interest in this guy? He is 23 years old and centering a line with Rajala and Hartikainen

Hopefully coming back home where there is still distractions doesn't get to the guys. Had to be nice to get away for the first couple games. A lot have admitted that it shook them and their family up what happened last week, and Unfortunately they have confirmed that there are tornado risks for Wednesday-Saturday in the OKC area, which the Barons play 3 of those 4 nights. I remember in the CHL days they actually delayed the game and had both teams and fans shelter underneath the Cox Center in a parking garage until the storm passed then everyone came back to the arena and resumed the game. Hoping that we don't have to see a repeat of that.

As far as the series goes, I like the way it's shaping out for OKC. Splitting on the road to come home for 3 straight games is definitely huge. I'd almost prefer to be the lower seed and play the first 2 on the road, then have 3 games at home to really take control of the series before it switches back.

It's great that the team is having a very successful run. I'm still not over joyed with the makeup of the team however re true prospects vs good career minor leaguers.

Most of our prospects haven't brought enough to the table to allow us to have team success without significant veteran help. That's what happens when your last 6 top picks are in the NHL and your other 1st rounder was in Sweden. That said it sounds like Marincin, Fedun, Pitlick, Lander (before getting hurt), Rajala, and Hartikainen have all been doing well.
