According to @HabsWatch, and I have no clue how reliable this is, Churla has connections in the Swedish league.

Dallas has been a decent drafting team, not exactly league best there but they usually bring in a good mix of player types.

I read that on twitter as well, which is encouraging if true.

I went over Dallas' drafting record since he joined the team in 2005, and it's decent, but as you say, not great.

Obviously too early to tell, but on paper they had one of the better drafts last year. Faksa has some questions but his positives are obvious, Bystrom had borderline first round talent IMO despite his lack of size, Lindell and Gemel Smith are both sleepers. If Churla played a part in any of these choices it's good to know he values a mixture of effort and skill instead of looking of just "character" and size cliches.

Can't his dad give Tinordi fighting tips, he was a mean SOB. Although after seeing him on TV, his dad is way out-of-shape, not sure if he can even stand on his skates.

Please, tell me more about his front office work, I am all ears.

Soon. I wonder what Peter Popovic is up to.
Assistant coach for the Swedish national team.

Dallas Stars Draft Record 2005-2010

2005:
28th Overall - Matt Niskanen (Second most games played of players drafted between 13 and 34. Only other defender to go no more than 30 picks after him that was better is M-E Vlasic)
34th Overall - James Neal (He definitely benefits from having great players around him, but he did have 40 goals last year and has been dynamite this year when healthy. A Great pick)
146th Overall - Tom Wandell (Not a pick that has turned into gold by any means, but to get a player who has played three full seasons with your hockey club this late isn't bad by any means. 6th most games played for those selected fifth round and later)

2007:
129th Overall - Jamie Benn (One of the organization's best picks of the decade. He is arguably the teams best player and the biggest steal of the draft)

2009:
38th Overall - Alex Chiasson (Hasn't really received his chance yet but it is definitely coming. In 7 NHL games this season, Chiasson recorded 6 goals)
129th Overall - Tomas Vincour (Like Wandell, he isn't gold yet..but to get a player this late who is playing with your team just three seasons later is pretty solid)

The rest of the picks weren't really very good. Concerning that he was apart of the staff that took Vishnevsky and Glennie..but at the same time they have had some success with picks outside of the first round. In addition, players like Campbell, Oleksiak, Ritchie and all of the 2012 draftees still have a lot of time to develop into solid players that will boost the teams draft record with Churla involved.

Churia can teach him while Mark, eating pizza on a chair on the ice, screams his instructions between two sips of Dr. Pepper.

I'm not saying it's happening but when the Jackets hired Kekalainen both J. Martin and A.Chainey said on TVA sports they expected him to offerTimmins an assistant GM job, based on past working relationship or something... I guess we'll know shortly after the draft if there was any basis to that.

Exactly what I was thinking. 6 consecutive top 10 finishes... in PIM, lol. I still remember when he and Kisio were claimed in the expansion draft and traded almost immediately to put Churla "back" in Minnesota.

Was Shane Churla IN CHARGE in Dallas? If not, note that his "record" is not entirely is. We don't know if he promoted a guy that ended up better than what they ended up taking and so on....If a guy like Timmins is fine with having Churla in....he has to know something we don't obviously. And if one of the few reasons is that Churla MIGHT have an eye on the tough guys that could eventually play hockey....I have no problem with that.

As far as the possibility of the Habs losing Timmins....well see my avatar. Somehow, it's fine that a guy might want another challenge. If so, what can you do about it. Yet, if the Habs management didn't wake up and didn't start grooming their new head scouting director before this year....they are a bunch of idiots. Not only that though...but if Bergevin kinda knew Timmins wanted to move on and have an assistant GM job...you have to think that he'd have him here instead of letting him go elsewhere.

Somehow, I thought that Jankowski would be the guy they might be grooming. Or is Frank Jay the guy though much older compared to Timmins and Jankowski. Or will Churla be it? I guess we'll have to see about that.

Head scout is a very tough job. You are never home.

Timmins probably asked to travel less so they hired Churla to be the guy who would travel everywhere all the time.

It would be a massive blow to the Habs. Seriously, that would be awful.

Les Jackson ran the 2012 draft for Dallas and before that Tim Bernhardt ran the Dallas drafts: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dal...es-jackson.ece

Bergevin seemed pretty aware that Timmins is one of the best in the industry, don't worry Whitesnake.

Thanks for making me laugh boys, but, perhaps Timmins has an out clause for such thing as an Assistant GM position.

Timmins: "I'd like to accept an Assistant GM job."
Bergevin: "Dudley, get the **** out."
*Bergevin turns to Timmins and shakes his hand*
"Congratulations, you're the new Assistant GM of the Montreal Canadiens"

Just realized how big Dallas drafts. Chiasson, Dillon, Oleksiak, Ritchie, Stransky, Troock.
