Komi (merged)

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/214367.html

He wants to be a force this year! He wants to play a more important role. It's good news because if he can get everything together and finaly play as a top4 then our D wouldn't be to bad

He didn't look that good in the preseason in what little I saw. Hopefully he picks it up.

It's time for him to assert himself. No one can be a project forever.

Lets not talk preseason anymore. The guy worked his arse off this summer. Came into camp in incredible shape and is so positive about this year.

He will rock.

Komi will be a monster this year! I expect him to step up and be the player we projected him to be.

Thank God, Hockey season is almost started

Yeah...he had a difficult preseason. I hope pairing up with Markov again will get him back on track.

Love him, love him, love him. Didn't get every word of the article, but I understood enough. Komi is gonna be a force this year and I (kind of) feel sorry for the forwards who have to go up against him.

If he plays with markov all year long, his offensive output will surely increase a little. 15 points with 2-5 goals isn't totally out of the question.

Komisarek breakout season looks like...

I'm just wondering what some other habs fans around here think Komisarek's upside looks like...

Like the rest of you, I've been eagerly waiting for him to show some of the stuff that made him top 10 worthy in the 2001 draft. There have been flashes here and there, the odd shift or even game where he just looks like a light's-out shut down Dman, but then there are nights where he still looks lost and out of place, just relying on playing physical to get by.

Personally, I feel strongly that he's on the brink. The flashes tell me that he has it in him to be a premier top 2 dman. It's seems clear that defensive dmen take a little longer to settle in than offensive dmen. The positional play, and knowing when and how to use your body to break down the other teams offensive stars is a skill that takes experience at the elite level, period. ( i suppose phaneuf somewhat disproved that, but if he keeps it up, he'll go down as one of the best dmen to ever play the game)

Point is, I think that this season or next, Komi will emerge as a Robyn Regehr type player. Not a big offensive force, but so dependable, intimidating and effective that he gets mentioned among the leagues best.

If you look at it, Regher (drafted in 1998), only really established himself in his 3rd full season (2002-03) which was 6 years after being drafted (and a season where he only scored 12 points).
Last year was Komi's 1st full season, his stat line looks a lot like Regehrs fist full season (and we all know Komi was hugely impacted by the illness and eventual death of his mother)
Komi: 2005-06 Montreal Canadiens NHL 71 2 4 6 116
Regher: 2000-01 Calgary Flames NHL 71 1 3 4 70

Both guys are big bodied, physical dmen, that skate well and hit hard. I suppose the statistical comparisons mean very little, nevertheless, I've got a gut feeling on this one...

What do you guys think? (try to use player comparisons if possible)

The Robyn Regher comparison is a very good one, and I agree. Maybe not a #2 d-man but for sure #3 I think is not out of the question

You know what I couldnt really give a rats *** if Komi scores any goals. All I want to seem him do is play excellent defensive... "in your face", "bone crushing", "knock em out", "oops sorry I took your head off"...hockey.

When Komi was first drafted they were comparing him to Scott Stevens, with more offense in playing style and i think thats pretty much what we're seeing him developing into. He >LOVES< to hit, and he can be an impact on offense as well.

He won't be that good on offence...he said it himself. We all know now that he will never be anything close to Stevens...

But I like the Regehr reference...

You might want to look into Stevens' point totals from when he was around Komi's age. I'll be extatic if Komi turns into an offence-less Stevens...
