Ummm....huh? Did you not see Enroth last year? Dude's 5-hole was bigger than Octomom's or Michelle Duggar's. Plus, he was VERY susceptible to a quality-placed shot.
It's not that we're not willing to give him a chance. If Miller is traded, most of us are perfectly willing to give him a chance.
There's just a bunch of us that doubt that he can handle a true starter's load. And it's not an unfounded doubt. At all.
We've seen how good AND how bad he can be.
Yes, I know his 5-hole is pretty bad. I hear over and over on how small the guy is. Just because he's smaller compared to the other goalies in the league doesn't mean he wouldn't be a dependable starter. That's basically what you guys are saying in this thread.
I'm willing to give the dude a chance and I see his potential. He seems to really care about this team and wants to succeed.
So those thirteen (or so?) games he played when miller was out mean nothing?
It means a little. In the great scheme of things though, it's a very small sample size. Like many others, I'm willing to see what he will do with a chance to start more often. I have my doubts, but am more than willing to be proven wrong.
More games played than Bishop, Markstrom, Fasth, Lehner. Four fewer than Holtby, five fewer than Bernier. It's a little conservative to say that's a poor sample size to start drawing conclusions from unless you think the jury's out on those other players as well.
Can he be a No. 1 starter? That question is still difficult to answer because there simply isn't enough information to say definitively he'd make an above average No. 1. There is no position harder to project than goaltender – and by a mile.
That being said, his statistics and performance in 2013 say he has a good chance at being capable – even very good.
