Woah if the Habs don't resign St-Denis the Hamilton D-core is going to be very very green. Gives the young guns playing time however.

St-Denis said he wants to play in the NHL next year, pretty good indicator he won't be back. I suspect he'll be in Europe by September.

Not as green as this year when the top defensemen were all rookies. Beaulieu, Pateryn and Ellis will all have a year under their belts. Tinordi, too, if he doesn't make the Habs

That's a lot of RH defensemen slated for Hamilton next year.

Ellis
Pateryn
Nygren
Thrower
Dietz

I figure one of those guys is slated for ECHL...

I expect Thrower back in the WHL unless he shows up in camp and looks great.

St-Denis doesn't have a chance in hell of cracking an NHL roster.

True but I think it would be good to have at least 1 AHLer D-Man with the young guys,

Could he blossum into a 3rd line winger? Very rare that these transition worked out but with his still, grit and shot, could be one in the exemption?

"(12) Dalton Thrower, D, 7.0C
Drafted 2nd round, 51st overall, 2012

Thrower's potential upside is right up there with Beaulieu but work ethic and attitude will have to improve to reach it. The tough blueliner still needs to work on some of his defensive issues like positioning, gap control, his pivoting footwork, and making better decisions with the puck in his end of the rink. His physicality, toughness, and offensive skills could allow the Canadiens to convert him to a forward position at the pro level if needed."

Interesting. Not sure what to think about that idea. What does everyone else think?

Is he at rookie camp? Haven't heard a single thing about him.

Saint-Denis signed a one year , two-way contract with Columbus in the summer. So you can all scratch him of your potential line ups people.

Fine by me, there is less and less space on D and thrower IMO is on the outside looking in for the moment. If they convert him to a forward it could get interesting because he has the tools to be an effective 3rd line PWF type of player.

The guy before you bumped the thread from May, when St-Denis was still a hab

As for rookie camp, he is doing okay, but not great from reports I saw. Probably gonna play in the CHL as a D. We need physical top-6 D more than physical 3-4th liner.

It seems the proposal about moving him to Forward position has more to do with his lack of ability to play good defensively though. Especially moving up to higher level. While he apparently has great offensive upside that I wasn't really that aware of. I doubt it will ever happen though. He will either have to get his game together and improve a lot defensively or he just won't make it.

I don't know whats more interesting about that write up. The fact that they propose he could end up being a better forward than his actual position he's always played, or that they compared his upside to be on par with Brolieu's.
