Everyone probably knows this... but when I think about it (and looked it up to verify)... other than the Cinderella run... the Oilers haven't won another single playoff series in the last 14 seasons(15 years because of the lost lockout year).

That's a hell of a long period of ineptness... if it weren't for that 1 run where they won 3 series... this team would be near legendary in its level of ineptness.

Again, I know we all know this as fans... but those that are questioning the "patience" of the fanbase really have to let that sink in... 15 years and only 1 decent run. Hard to be much more patient than that.
The Flames have been past the first round once since 1989. The Islanders haven't won a series since 1993. Before last year the Coyotes hadn't won a series since the 80s.

We have a long way to go before we can talk about that kind of ineptitude.

It is truly amazing how much hooking and holding the Kings get away with.

Very early in the season I thought the Sharks looked really solid and had a really good chance at the Cup this year... guess not.

He's a UFA after next year. If we're in good position I'd like MacT to take a run at him at the TD.

If the Hawks/Wings don't beat them, the Cup is theirs regardless of who emerges from the East.

The NHL might be dead come the end of the June if this is the brand of hockey that wins it. We're back in the dead puck era.

The Penguins can beat them. Plus the Pens would have home ice advantage. The Kings aren't nearly as effective on the road.

And man, that would be the dullest Stanley Cup Final ever from an aesthetic standpoint. Black... white... and a smidgen of yellow thrown in (on the Pens side).

I don't think it would be terribly hard to summon up last year's mojo. The Sharks and Blues were both quality opponents and the Blues only won the two games because of Quick's mishaps.

The Sharks won three games against them on home ice. The Sharks. They're beatable just so long as they lose their home ice advantage.

Respect the Kings, but hate the Kings. This decade's New Jersey Devils. :p

I'd love for JT to win a Cup before the end.

The Sharks were at times among the West's elite and their sweep of the Canucks was far from a fluke.

I think the Hawks can beat them but I don't see the Penguins taking them down with their effective defense and Quick playing at last year's level again.

EDIT: The Islanders played the Penguins hard and took them twice to OT. If Nabakov plays even a little better that series goes seven and possibly the Penguins are gone. The Kings can play that brand of hockey and better than the Islanders.

I hate cheering for a team that registers 18 shots a night. Such boring hockey.

You're placing the "East" stigma on the Penguins when it doesn't apply to them. It's no surprise that them and the Bruins are the only teams standing in the East. They outclass the rest of that Conference by a sizable margin.

Of course, this was the most predictable conference final in years. They are surely the elite of the East.

But is Vokuon a cup quality goaltender? Quick and that D can neutralize the Penguins. The Bruins might actually have a better chance due to being able to match the physicality of the Kings. The Penguins don't have a Lucic or a Chara. Douglas Murray and Matt Cooke are their most physical players and the latter doesn't scare anybody.

Craig Button, Pierre LeBrun and a few other hockey pundits are praising the hell out of the Kings/Sharks series on Twitter. Is there some kind of league-wide mandate to fawn all over the Kings? Because I wasn't once compelled to watch this series. Every time I tried my thumb veered towards the "previous channel" button on my remote.

I watched more of the Heat/Pacers game than the Sharks/Kings. And that game was slow as hell.

Darren Pang and Damien Cox got in a little twitter fight over the Kings style of play. Cox is saying he doesn't understand why the media is praising the kings and he is the one of the only media members against it.

Where it all falls apart for me with Cox is when he got a little personal with Pang. Dick move imo. Never liked Cox. He's a huge hack and just takes the opposite position of the mainstream to make himself look smart.

That's exactly how i see it, the Devils of the 90s to early 00's immediately came to mind when watching this Kings team. I always respected the greatness of those Devils and the flawless execution of their system but man alive, it's some boring ass hockey.

I'm much more entertained by the skilled, chaotic play of the Pens and Blackhawks, that would be a wildly entertaining finals.
The Kings are impressive though, gotta give them credit for just knowing how to win even though there's no point in watching their games after they get a lead when we already know the outcome.

I agree with this. I think it also applies to Detroit.

If the refs used the October rule book in May/june we wouldn't be talking about another dead puck era
