Sounds suspect at best but for us CBJ fans.... Who is Melart? What type of player?

Melart is 6'3" / 227 lbs Helsinki native, who was regarded as tough guy / enforcer but has made huge leaps in two years with his play making and defensive skills. He played in Finnish NT in WHC.

He is not afraid to fight and always stands up for his teammates.

Video is titled accordingly "From enforcer to National Team"

I really like seeing these types of players get a chance.

Yeah, he may just be back in Europe in a year, but I still like seeing these guys take a bold leap and at least try it.

Underestimating Melart, he is not the plug he was few years ago. He has improved a lot. I think he will be just fine.

Ilari Melart tend to make horrible mistakes when he is pressured and there is no time or space him to do quick solid decision. His ability to stay calm and cool with the puck isn't good. it looks like he wants to get rid of it quickly and then make shaky decisions. He has been improving alot but when watching him closely at WHC and FEL playoffs the main question is how well he can handle the puck quickly without mistakes in small ice surface. If he can improve in that area then he should be solid NHL-player. Still has room to grow and i don't think that he has reached his potential yet.

I can confirm that Simon Moser just accepted an invitation to the Preds camp (and probably signed a try-out-contract) and he didn't sign an ELC (yet)

He fits perfectly as a bottom pair stay at home / enforcer.
I don't understand what's the problem.

I put this in the Free Agent thread yesterday, but it actually should have probably gone in here.

per Igor Eronko
Quote:
Andrei Kostitsyn has an extension offer from #Traktor but considers #NHL comeback. Had 13+8 in 44 #KHL regseason gms, 3+7 in 23 PO gms
Also, Antti Raanta will reportedly decide on his future on Friday, which includes staying in Finland and/or the Minnesota Wild.

My favourite translated part of that article would be "Agent, I said that I did not scab terribly finicky eating habits at this point." Now that THAT is cleared up.

Several NHL teams (Montreal, Philadelphia, Nashville, Edmonton) are interested in the two Austrian national team players Bernhard Starkbaum (Goalkeeper, MoDo, Sweden) and Michael Raffl (Forward, Leksands IF, Sweden), according to their manager. They're not free agent, but freeing them from their contracts shouldn't be a problem. Source (in German): http://sport.orf.at/stories/2184530/

Great to hear! Adding players from countries that don't normally develop NHL talent is always a good thing.

Has OKT officially signed in Nashville yet for next season?

Leksand was promoted so both teams are SEL. From what I've heard, he's either signing in Philly or Nashville.

May be a stupid question but do teams have to wait until July 1st to sign European free agents?

Belov's agent would not confirm he'll sign with the #Pens, but said the deal "with an NHL team" is close. (ITAR)

He said "Minnesota is maybe one of the teams involved, but I can't talk anything else about it".

So it's Minnesota and some other (NHL) teams, not just Minnesota.

Nope. If their contract is done, they are free to sign elsewhere

Can anyone who has actually watched Anton Belov play give me a quick rundown of his game and how he projects? Would he have a shot to actually make the Pens roster next season or is he strictly depth? As a Pens fan who has never seen him play I am just curious. Thanks
