Given the crop of free agent talent this offseason, probably.

I remember reading a tweet that said that if Richards gets bought out this summer, it'll cost the Rangers 1.7 per year through '26-'27. Next summer: 1.5 per through '25-'26.

Apparently he hurt himself in practice.

Thinking about friend and ex-teammate Brad Richards. I've lived it, with the same coach yet I'm a better man today for making it thru.

RP is calling DET-CHI on NBCSN with Edzo and Pierre, basically subbing for Emrick's spot.

It took me a few minutes to figure out what's different. There was a game a good while back, maybe even last season where I felt Pierre and RP worked well together when it was just the two of them.

I think I'm seeing why. There is too much of a good thing with Emrick and Pierre together.

The good thing, IMO are the stories told during the game, etc. I consistently see posters complaining about them, but I enjoy them. In moderation.

The pbp is the one taking up the majority of the time talking, so he sort of ends up setting the pace of discussion. The problem stems from Emrick and Pierre both having encyclopedic knowledge.

Emrick starts in with that awesome weird **** about players and that enables Pierre to share what he knows. There's too much knowledge between them, and Pierre in particular ends up grating to viewers as he has far fewer tricks.

This ends up meaning everything where the differences with RP and Emrick are concerned. Emrick has tremendous knowledge already to fill the gaps where RP emulates that rhythm of pbp that I pined for a few days ago in the WC thread really well. (RP will say who a guy is, but doesn't get carried away with description if they aren't doing anything particularly noteworthy or exciting.)

Both are good, and when left to their own devices, let the broadcast breathe, but both strengths have to be paired with a color commentator (and/or between the glass guy) who compliments their strengths.

As an aside, Pierre already ends up speaking more directly to Edzo than Emrick, and I don't think he's spoken to RP yet in the broadcast. Not really that big of a deal IMO as I don't really know what Pierre thinks he could get out of RP.

I find myself 'rooting' for RP this playoff. Must be because the Lightning didn't make it again.

Well, given the history of the two teams' diving during the series and the positioning of the ref on that call, you can see why he evened it up by calling Diving on Quick. Should not have gotten called for it in that particular instance, but oh well. Live by the dive, die by the dive.

Detroit vs. Chicago is such a great series - too bad it's probably gonna be a long time until these two teams meet again in the playoffs...

That was one of the worst calls I've ever seen, Hjalmarsson's goal should have been good and have iced the game. Detroit is living up to their name of the being the "Ref Wings".

What happened? I see coincidental roughing penalties were given out?

That was an awful call. If that ends up costing the Hawks the series, bad news.

In my expert opinion, that was a tough call to make...I think it was the wrong call, but I see why the ref made it.

Doesn't matter though! Seabrook ends it!

Boston Pittsburgh seems more intriguing to me as a CF than Kings vs Hawks. But who knows. This far into the playoffs most series are pretty good.

Fun fact: The four remaining teams are the last four Stanley Cup champions.

Fun-ner fact: Before last night's game, the five remaining teams were the last five Stanley Cup champions.

The popular theory about this is that Pierre asked Z for an interview, but was declined. NBC doesn't do player interviews during intermissions, so that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Pierre could have been trying to get a scoop, or just wanted to discuss Jonathan Toews college career at North Dakota where Toews was alternate captain in his sophomore year, helping the team reach the Frozen Four held in St. Louis that year. MSU, coached by the great Rick Comley won it that year. And do you know who that team had? Justin Abdelkader.
