Considering what Hank has been for this team, he has every right in a walk year to exercise clout with our coaching situation. Torts played completely against our strengths, We have a strong D corp and Vezina, why the hell are we playing defense first hockey?? Lundqvist understood this and so did the rest of the team who clearly looked lost and discouraged this year.

Mike: this was not a planned firing ... it's more of something that escalated quickly the last 48H

It would break my heart to see Alain Vigneault take over an original 6 franchise, and in a tough city like NY. You would become montreal south. Specifically, diving all over the place, and watching your team get their heads turned into human speed bags. But, he'll fix your PP.
Yeah....I'd take it at this point.

So here comes the new faces of the NYR's, new system, new personnel for the new system, re-evaluate all personnel after the first year and make the necessary changes. Hopefully the changes produce the correct chemistry, team character and proper results. Oie Vey.

Torts is awful to play for. A good guy away from the rink but NO fun at all to be around. Very smart hockey guy but I played for him and ugh
Maybe Torts tried to tell him not to drive drunk and verbally abuse and scare his wife

Any media outlet that would hire John Tortorella should be ashamed.
Torts should be an option for the Post then. They proved they have no shame by hiring Brooksie.

Tortorella had to go, but bringing in a new coach won't change the problems upstairs.

This team had no power play, no offense and I was frankly tired of watching the "dump and chase" offense.

I'm rooting for AV or Eakins to be our coach.
The only thing dumb and introlerant is that comment because it insults someone for having an opinion. So many internet tough guys who's default is to treat people like garbage b/c there are no consequences with the anonymity of the net.

I have heard a lot of great stuff about Eakins and how his guys rave about him and would run through a spiked brick wall for him. NHL radio on Sirius brings him up constantly. Dunno much else though about him.

I'm afraid that's what we're destined for. We should have emulated your model and never traded for Nash. You guys play the right way, too bad it looks like we never will.

He doesn't like playing young players. He has had problems with both Kassian and Hodgson in his time in Vancouver. His teams dive all over the place. He is not a good offensive coach. He was blessed with the Sedins.

I'd want Pierre more than Ruff.

One thing I loved about Torts was his energy. We need a coach that match, or at least come close.

Ruff ain't that guy.

And we see how well that worked out!

How is ANYONE surprised about this??? After him selling Hags out to the media and his ki$$ my A.... comment (which to me was just the icing on the cake) this is what I expected and have been begging for.

They sat Richards so he could not get hurt and then they could buy him out (can't buy him out if hurt).

I would think EVERYONE is that room is breathing a sigh of relief and the kids would feel they have a decent chance now to succeed and not look over their shoulder with every mistake; which simply caused their development to suffer. Can't play the game constantly looking over your shoulder. Good riddance to the bully!!!!
