Yeah, blame the coach for players not scoring. However, lets ignore everything he did over the regular season his entire tenure.

Some other names to consider

Don Lever - Current Chicago Wolves coach. Former Calder Cup winner
Marc French - Current Hershey Bears coach. Another former Calder Cup winner
John Hynes - Current Baby Pens coach.

Do you think this roster is championship caliber? Do you think the roster's of the last 2 years should've been better than top 4 and top 8 in the NHL? I certainly don't.

Do you remember the same types of things being said about the 08-09 team? About how they were a coach away from being contenders? I do. It was ******** then and its ******** now.

The next coach, no matter who it is, will run into the same problem. Inflated expectations from the fanbase.

That was the season of the Stamkos laser beam from the circle almost every PP.

Boucher is my choice, we don't have the top end talent he had, at least no Stamkos or MSL but let's not forget he had guys like Downie, Thompson, and Bergenheim all producing they all had career years. He was also the awakening of Purcell.

The Northwest division is only topped by the Southeast in terms of suckitude.

I say that's a big reason as to why Vancouver has finished so high. Why is it that they're so good in the regular season in terms of scoring, and wilt away in the playoffs? Maybe the Sedins really are playoff chokers, or maybe their system isn't built for the playoffs. I don't know. But I just don't want AV.

Had Richards produced at even the same level this year as last we could have been top four. I understand you and Kershaw both hate every player on the team and think we are complete scrubs but it's tiresome. This team isn't as bad as it looked this year. No world beater IMO but also not just lucky to be there.

Yeah I expect my team to not have the worst powerplay in NHL history and I expect my team to not have a system built around screening their own goaltender. Sorry if that's "inflated".

Glen Sather becomes coach, and Gorton becomes GM

Gorton fires Sather as coach

And all our problems are solved

No, I don't think the current roster is championship caliber. I think it's better than the season it had, though. I don't like how Tortorella handled this group of players, plain and simple. A change in coaching philosophy was needed, and hopefully we get it.

I do think that last year's roster was excellent, and I think that if Sather was a little more proactive at the deadline, they could have gone all the way.

Dallas Eakins is definitely the highest. Willie Desjardins had a fantastic debut season as a head coach. Jeff Blashill did too.

There are a lot of interesting names down there though. Mentioned Don Lever, John Hynes, Mark French. Don't know about Rob Zettler, since he took over for the Bolts current head coach after Boucher got fired.

Bruce Cassidy, John Torchetti, Scott Arniel have NHL head coaching experience.

Lindy Ruff would seem like the favorite, but Marc Crawford, Brent Sutter and Dave Tippet could be discussed.

Marc Crawford -- Missed the PO's his last 5 years in the NHL. Same problem as Torts. Used the same transition mechanism as Torts and Hartley did prior to the lockout, Ds standing up high, after winning the puck they could move it from the neutral zone to their centers who had skill and utilize the skill they had during the trapping era without getting killed by the trap. Today you gotta be able to transit all the way from your own end.

Could potentially have learned a thing or two coaching in Europe the last two years. Its not hard to acknowledge what works in the game today, Torts was basically alone in the entire NHL with the old approch.

Positives is that he has a good personality, a ton of experience, and probably alot to left to give. He is a very likeable guy. Hardly a dream option in the end though.

Brent Sutter -- Did a very impressive job in NJ before he went to Calgary where he had nothing to work with basically.

I think he is the safest option out there save for Ruff. He understands the game post-lockout, unlike Torts, he can handle media and he would have no problem handling Torts legacy.

Could be a very good option...

Tippet and Maloney did a helluva work with what they had to work with in PHX. He did a great job in Dallas really.

I am not that familier with him, but I am not 100% on the "potential" on him. He can build a functional team, that we know for sure.

I think Ron Wilson is. He would probably turn the Rangers into a run n gun type team. Hank is good enough to play that style unlike the goalies in Toronto.

Could be a self-mantra for why he got traded out of NYC when the coach he disliked was going to get fired anyway.

You know what would make a lot of people angry?

If the Rangers hired Jerry York.

I very much doubt this.

We played really really bad hockey under our coach. After rebuilding for ten years, we weren't even close. Why would Slats only fire the coach to accomodate Hank?

Not sure if it was mentioned either but I found it hysterical that Pat Leonard opened up his article today with "Stop coaching, Torts."
