Yeah, and Maloney has denied Tippet permission to speak with other teams. Going to be hard to make that magic happen.

What AV needs is good faceoff man. That's his bread and butter and thats his key to zone possession and time. Thats why this guy rode Malohotra like that.

Brassard fits nicely.
I guess AV can get point totals from his most talented players. 80% offensive zone starts for Sedin twins in some years. Kesler had around 50-60, Malhotra and Lapierre were in the 30's.

If Boyle can figure out how to get the puck out of the zone, then I have no problem with this. Better puck support in a system that isn't a 5-man collapse would help that too.

That's one thing I love about Vigneault. Malhotra's been as low as 13%.

Boyle was very good in similar role in 2011-12.

But let's not forget that the last Stanley Cup was won in 1990 and there have been only 3 times that Sather's teams have advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs--only one of those in the last 20 years.

And it's only 5 Stanley Cups, not six.

We were talking about Trottier.

The question of the day is, did Glen Sathers come to this decision through analytic work done at the end of every season and will there be an organizational meeting in June?

I might be the only one who wouldn't be opposed to giving Pierre McGuire a shot.

Dregger on NHL NETWORK: "Torts lost the room" this year. Cited Hags, Lundqvist, Richards.

This is an interesting point. Under Tortorella, we never really had a top 6 and a bottom 6. It was more like a top line, a middle 6, and a bottom line. Under a new coach, our team will change. It's going to take an adjustment in how we think of players in their roles.

It sounds like Boyle on the 3rd line in a Vigneault system would be hugely different than Boyle on the 3rd line in the Tortorella one.

It's all about shelf life for a guy with Tortorella's personality.

I'd welcome Pierre with open arms. He's a very smart man, at least in hockey. Spent his life/career working in hockey and knows enough to be at least average/moderately effective.

The question I'd have with him would be his ability to hold people accountable. At least in his on-air persona, he LOVES everyone. I don't know if we know enough about his off-air personality to answer that.
