Probably.

Because of the fact that I don't want to dislike or be mad with Mess I don't want him at HC. also because ex players usually suck at coaching for whatever reason.

Eh, that roster is a ****ing mess. They have four good forwards, Matt Carle is their #2 defenseman, and the goaltending situation is arguably the worst in the league. The one year he had capable goaltending, his team went pretty far.

Possibly for the novelty of seeing scarface behind our bench.

The last thing we need here is a power hungry, egomaniac, control freak who can't relate to less talented players.

Fair enough. But to be honest, Torts' relationship with and handling of the media is pretty far down on my list of complaints I could have with him.

I just don't understand why anyone thinks he's anything more than a mediocre coach. I'd rather have Ruff. And that's saying something.

I would be the happiest man alive if Pierre McGuire was the coach of the NYR... seriously. The sheer comedic value and the general sunshine that radiates from his bald head would make me a happy camper. Something about Pierre just makes me joyous. I would just love to see that experiment come to fruition haha.

Outside of Hedman their D is one of if not the worst this past season. Carle is brutal. Eric Brewer has always be an overrated Dman.

I think their goalies look alot better than their D.

AV would be Torts all over again IMO only maybe nicer to the media, which frankly doesn't mean anything to me.

Aside from that list of qualities, the guy has coached stacked teams that were projected to win the cup and somehow let them implode more than a few times. Torts did that once in a lockout season with two major roster turnovers and he got fired.

I don't want any re-treads.

Ruff - NO
AV - NO
Crawford - NO
Hartley - NO
Wilson - NO
Boucher - NO (not really a re-tread like the others, just don't like 1-3-1 systems real or as a joke)

I want a guy where the media collectively says "WHO THE FUDGE IS THIS GUY"

The team needs a new approach to how the game is played. We need a younger mind that can better relate to the players that we have on the team and those that will be joining down the line.

A guy that the youngsters are encouraged to seek out for knowledge rather than worry about if the coach is run you down.

Not a push over by any stretch, but someone that can quickly earn the respect of the room, not just demand it.

I remember most of the douchey Lightning fans telling me Carle was an awesome signing when I was LOLing at the terms. I really dislike a lot of their fans (quite arrogant) since they think their team can do no wrong. Just a random aside.

I mean, I watched Carle act as a pylon in Philly for a few years. They thought that he'd magically play better in Tampa and they also thought he was an amazing d-man for Philly.

Eric Brewer had a pretty good season a year or two ago.

Lightning fans were pretty adamant about how terrible he was this season.

IMO, Tampa has the second worst defense in the league.

#1?

Colorado. Bar none. They were rotating 4-5 3rd pairing defenseman a night. These players wouldn't crack a healthy Rangers' D, and they were getting TOP minutes. It's no wonder that Colorado is picking 1st overall.

Also, I can't help but think of how funny it'd be to fire Torts in part because of the rumors that Hank didn't like him, only to get a guy who absolutely screwed his last franchise's elite goaltender, causing him to lose a year of his prime.

So in other words you want some random guy to coach.

How about a mod from here?

This is a win now team. You need to hire an established coach or at least an assistant with NHL experience.

Where they can take a step towards fixing that defense by drafting Jones.

Who's the guy, that will infuse some good schemes for the PP, the breakouts & transition... while maintaining a good defense system?

Names? Besides Bowman.

Agreed, never thought Carle was anything special, always racking up points with lethal power play units. To his credit, at least he did that, some guys like Brewer never had it in them to do even that.

I hated Brewer in his draft year, so overrated based on size. Funny thing is they liked his skating, which I always thought was sluggish, he proved me right.

It's not a win now team, its a win now for our star goalie situation, there is a difference.

Agreed.

Not the case with everyone though. People tend to overlook a pretty big margin of stupidity and failure as long as the individual seems "swell".

Guys like Torts will always be hated by some even more than most because they come off as a**holes.

He just doesn't come off as an *******, he is an *******.

And that's okay when you are firing on all cylinders and winning.
