Flyers are pretty good team at finding talent at different levels and UFA market among undrafted players. I will admit I know nothing about the 2nd level Swedish league that the kid played in expect he played with Mattias Taminder I believe.

He does have a year left on his contract though, so the team signing him will probably have to buy him out. It was speculated/reported it was $100,000.

You really think Forsberg got on the horn with the GM of the team he just got traded to and told him to sign up his linemate?

More likely they saw Raffi while scouting Forsberg and decided it couldn't hurt to give him a closer look.

They are going after the wrong Austrian winger. They should be dueling for Vanek.

First thing I thought when I read the title.

Ah well, less competition for Vancouver.

He was a very good player in the EBEL, one of the best on VSV, but IMHO he just isn't NHL material based on what I saw from him in that league, he might've improved in Allsvenskan (saw him only a couple of times with Leksand), but I doubt he had a huge jump in development there.

He can skate, is decent defensively, but sometimes he tries to do too much with the puck.

Skilled and speedy guy with a good release. Obviously a latebloomer that has taken big steps since coming to play in Sweden, especially this season where he was arguably a top3 player in the league. For me he's kind of a poor man's Damien Brunner. Give him another couple of years(AHL/SEL seasoning) and he might make it one day.

he did hugh jumps in Sweden, one of the best in Allsvenskan.

he is a pretty good package of size, speed, skill and scoring touch but I agree with Ivan. I have hugh doubts that he will have NHL success

For some reason, his size and his supposed play (two-way play) reminds me of Gagne. But probably no where near the scoring threat, of course.

I would rather sign Jon Knuts, purely based on his epic name.

I think people overrate the nhl talent wise vs the rest of the leagues. Third line cheap reliable players are worth scouting out overseas

Teams aren't allowed to buyout contracts for players in other leagues. The team could in theory sign him to a larger contract than market value that allowed the player $ to buy himself out though.

I immediately thought of Thomas Vanek reading the title.

Looks like the Flyers signed him to a two way deal.
