That or just write his name as ROFL.

He's got good offensive numbers (9+34=43 points in 55 games, and 11 points in 19 playoff games) last season, and turns 21 in late July. Good size, too: 6'3", 218 lb. And in terms of the rough stuff, he really pounds the Mooseheads' Steve Gillard in this tilt.

Michael Raffl signed. Flyers scout Dave Brown:

Quote:
Raffl is probably a third line player and would need an adjustment period which is the way it is for a lot of guys over there. (...)
You have to almost project how are they going to play in North America and will they compete physically or not. He showed it. Somebody gives him a push and gives them a crosscheck back...
He’s a pretty good body who has to work on his footwork. But his hands and his head are right there.

So what are we looking at for a phantoms lineup next season?

McGinn-Noebels-Akeson
Raffl-Cousins-Flanagan
Wellwood-Holmstrom-Alderson
Roe-Brown-Straka

Lauridsen-Manning
Lamarche-Alt
Konan-Eddy

Heeter
Chubak?

Probably not right but it was still fun to put together.

Straka will most definitely be on the first or second line. While that team won't win any championships it looks much much better then it has recently. Also, MAB maybe on the team if he ever gets healthy (I have my doubts). Just my opinion

How about

McGinn-Noebels-Akeson
Raffl-Cousins-Straka
Flanagan-Holmstrom-Alderson
Roe-Brown-Wellwood

Lauridsen-Bourdon
Lamarche-Manning
Alt-Eddy

Heeter
Chubak

I, unfortunately, think Bourdons career is likely over at this point though.

It's a tough decision cause now I would say Flanagan was a decent college player w/ multiple teams looking to sign him and the fact he got a one yr, one way contract seems to indicate he'd get a good chance to prove himself (in camp as well as on a high line with the phantoms). At the same time the guys in front of him have played well also. It's a tough one but then again Murray is probably gonna have Cousins on the 4th line again.

And yeah I'm inclined to agree with you that MAB is more then likely done.

You're probably going to have to add a goon or two to the lineup, Mathers and who ever else is down there. There is barely any type of discipline in the AHL compared to the NHL. You don't want players roughing up your young players.

Example:

McGinn - Flanagan - Noebels
Akeson - Cousins - Straka
Raffl - Holmstrom - Alderson
Roe - Brown - Wellwood

2ND ROUND DRAFT CHOICE - Manning
Lamarche - Lauridsen
Alt - Eddy

Heeter
Chubak

Hmm Flanagan will most likely play center in the AHL. Noebels is a winger.

To start the season off (What I realistically seeing instead of what I hope):

Offense:

McGinn-Flanagan-Noebels
Akeson-Holmstrom-Straka
Raffl-Cousins-Alderson
Brown-Roe-Wellwood
Mangene
Mathers

Defense:
Syrvet-Alt (Danny is still around and I expect them to go with this pairing which looked solid at the end of last season)
Manning-Lauridsen
Eddy-Konan/Lamarche

Wouldnt be surprised if Lamarche starts off in the ECHL like they seem to like doing with the young/undrafted defenders. Thats unless he impresses which is possible.

Heeter
Chubak
Starkbaum (if he signs I would guess Chubak to ECHL)

Cousins' still needs to round out his game. If you can't play defense well then you won't play top minutes under Murray. He'll probably start off the season there again and if he improves he'll move up like Akeson did this year.

Most here don't like Murray but I think he's a pretty good coach for the AHL. We might benefit in the future from having him down there teaching these kids how to play some defense.

After his injury and I think his contract being up I'd be surprised to see Wellwood in the Flyers organization.

Anyone think they're waiting to sign starkbaum to see if they can get Ericsson to sign and come over?

yeah i realize he has plenty of work to do but he is a much better overall player then Roe yet Roe saw 3rd line minutes. If you want a player to work on something then you have to give him playing time to do it. You can't expect a guy to improve much when he's playing 12 minutes a night with Mathers and Brown/Fitz (some of his line-mates last season when he wasn't a scratch). I just hope he's given a better opportunity, that doesn't necessarily mean i think he should be handed a top 6 spot but playing with goons and grinders 12 minutes a night won't help his development imo.

Well it was only a few games, how many minutes a night they play can be earned in practice too. Cousins could have not been playing well at practices.

I'm sure whatever reason they had him playing that many amount of minutes was justified.

Didn't really take off like they wanted this year, but it was his first year of pro hockey. Showed some flashes of skilled greatness in the ECHL, but was buried in the AHL as a 4th liner/healthy scratch.

Really nice kid, I hope the organization gives him another year or two.

I don't know how they are internally rating those two goalies, but in my eyes Starkbaum would only be some kind of a consolation prize.

He (Starkbaum) had been the dominating goalie in Austrian hockey for a couple of years before finally accepting what has been considered his last chance to make it to one of the top European leagues by most scouts last year. But he is already 27 years old and has proven nothing at the top level so far besides one great season in Eliteserien. I hope he pans out, but more likely he is the next Johan Backlund.

I dunno

I think they at least qualify him to at least let him know they havent given up on him because of his injury. I mean, it would be a pretty dick move by the organization if they just released him

Do they have to qualify him to give him any contract? Could they not qualify him and then give him an AHL only contract while he rehabs?

Agreed. Just like they kept Holmstrom around after his injury riddled season even if the likelihood of him ever turning into an NHL regular has become very very small.

My guess is they qualify him, let him rehab his injury and then when he's ready to come back, sign him to an AHL deal to finish off the season and go from there
