I thought it was odd that Anderson hadn't been sent to Rochester yet.

On another note, I hope Van Ryn's wrist won't be a lingering problem throughout the season.

I asked both Ryno and Weiss how the wrists felt last night. They both said they felt good. Not that they're going to tell me otherwise, but I had to ask anyway.

I guess this means that Anderson is the number 3, which means that the Panthers must be looking for somewhere to ship Pelletier.

Which i hope they do, just for Shantz alone.

How Belfour is doing so far. I havn't read a lot on him lately. Also, for how many time Belfour will be out with this injury?

The fate of Pelletier and Anderson has nothing to do with Shantz as neither of them can be assigned to the ECHL, which is where Shantz is headed.

Pelletier had a great camp and it's a shame that he has zero idea of where he is going to play this season.

I think the Panthers will carry three goalies for a while.

Belfour has a sore groin, the sky is blue, nothing surprising here.

Yeah, if we're going to start monitoring the Eagle's health problems, threads will be started every other day. Might as well sticky a thread on that topic right now.

Well it does, because ideally Shantz should play in the AHL, which he can't because of this situation. When Plante finishes junior this year, where will he go? If Pelletier or Anderson can't be assigned to the ECHL, we should keep one and get rid if the other.

Under the new CBA, no player can refuse assignment to the ECHL, so I'm not sure what you mean here.

No, "ideally" Shantz should play where he'll get the most ice time to develop and that will be in the ECHL, not the AHL. Plante will be headed to the ECHL unless he impresses the organization moreso than Shantz, who should be going to the AHL "ideally" after this year...with Pelletier/Anderson being brought up to back-up Auld after Belfour's done after this year. Of course, there are never any guarantees in this sport.

Well yeah, but i'd prefer for our best goaltending prospect to be playing in the AHL.

Once Belfour is done, i'd be suprised if Anderson and Pelletier will back stop Auld.

I'm quoting Pelletier in a recent article in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle

"There's three goalies for one spot," Pelletier said after practice. "Craig Anderson and myself can't get sent down to the East Coast (ECHL), so something has to give."

It appears that Pelletier should take a closer look at the CBA then. As should the writer to correct him.

According to the CBA

13.10 Recognition of Minor League: For purposes of this agreement, minor league club shall only include any club in the American Hockey League.

13.11 A Player who is not in the Entry Level System may not be loaned to the East Coast Hockey League without his consent.

That said, please let me know if I have missed something as this seems pretty clear. If I did miss something I would appreciate it quoted from the CBA.

I mistakenly thought it applied to all, not just entry-level contracts.

Took me forever to find the ECHL release that I was remembering, but here it a portion from 10-17-05:

Quote:
DID YOU KNOW? ... The ECHL and the American Hockey League are the only two minor professional hockey leagues that are recognized in the recently approved Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association.

The CBA states that any player on an NHL entry-level contract designated for assignment to a minor league must report if assigned to a team in the ECHL or the AHL. A player on an NHL entry-level contract assigned to a minor professional league other than the ECHL or the AHL is not required to report and can request reassignment to a team in the ECHL or the AHL.
On a side note, I find it awkward that the NHL referred to the ECHL by the wrong name in the CBA. You'd think the lawyers would have vetted that out. They moved from "East Coast Hockey League" to ECHL when they incorporated the WCHL three years ago.
