Assessment-Final

Well, you probably see that I dug up all of those other polls I made, and the results newly attached to them. After combining those three figures, the overall team rating shows to be 65%.

I thought I'd create one more poll to see if the results that I tabulated are in line with your overall idea of this team.

AT BEST, the Kings are just an average team.

I can see Matt uncharacteristicly is the insane optimist of this thread.

By having a rating of 5 at Forward, a rating of 5 at Defense and a rating of 5 at Goaltending... they really have an overall rating of 3 or 4...

The way I chose to tabulate it involved multiplying the number of voters by ten (giving us the maximum number of votes that could be had) and then dividing that figure into the sum of the votes the respective areas received.

The Defense got 330 votes of a possible 460-71%
The Goalies got 231 of a possible 350-66%
The Forwards got 168 of a possible 300-56%

For the overall rating, I added the sums of the votes collected in each section and divided that figure by the maximum number of votes that could be had in each section.

729 out of a possible 1110 votes-65%

I have had a tough time holding back my comments on the strength of the Kings team this year because I am truly diametrically opposed to most of the flippant commentary that accompanies any assessment of the team. It doesn't "$uck".

I think the coaching is going to be much better. As much as I supported Murray last year there was something radically wrong with the staff's inability to change their attack on problem areas.

I think the defense is much better. Even without Gleason and Corvo, we added Blake, Tvo and Dalman, and we will see a healthier Miller and Sopel.

How can having 2 30 game winners as your Net-minders be a bad thing? Beach balls aside, we will have one of the better tandems in the league. Time to forget the Cechmanek era.

The forwards are at this point unproven for the most part but they are poised to break through. I am more of the mind that this group has much potential. Avery, Brown, Camalleri and Frolov are ready to take the next step. I am excited about Kopitar and O'Sullivan. Some quality vets are interspersed throughout the lineup. The defensive specialists are better than what we've been used to. Better knuckleboy too.

Will we be healthy? Can the rookies adjust? Will the 2nd and third year guys hit their potential? That's why you play 'em. We will find out. I'm not going to whimper and hide in the corner because of the worst luck with injuries I have ever seen. We shouldn't have missed the playoffs last year and we have a better overall team this year. Just insisting we are weaklings doesn't make it so. And you know what, even if I'm wrong I can handle it. I'll watch and cheer and kvetch and analyse. I'm gonna have fun, you should too!

It looked like an MSN conversation merged with a paragraph.

I'm not blindly optimistic...there's a good chance this team doesn't make the playoffs given all the unknows.

But I don't think they're bad enough to get a top 5 pick.

Okay.

Looks like we're up to a total of 67% on the overall vote...pretty close to the 65% attained by the compiling equation.

Our collective opinion of this team is that they're operating at around 65% of ideal NHL team efficiency.

Let's see if they prove us right or wrong.
